Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison faced a bitter blow by being excluded from the Brazil squad for Copa America 2024. The 26-year-old’s sloppy end to the 2023/24 season ultimately ended his dreams of leading Selecao’s forward line and help them win the prestigious continental championship.
Richarlison will have to root for Brazil from his home and it appears that he’s decided to at least work on getting a ‘makeover’ of sorts during the off-season. The Spurs forward looks to have changed up a notable part of his appearance by getting a teeth makeover. It’s clear he wants to at least look good when back in action for the Lilywhites from the beginning of the 2024/25 season.
It’s not like Richarlison had horribly disfigured or broken teeth that were embarrassing him. The pictures from last season show that he had perfectly normal teeth, but it appears that he wanted to ‘upgrade’ his gnashers even more. The official account of Clinica Viotto, a popular dental clinic in Rio de Janeiro, recently posted the’makeover’ that they gave to the Spurs star during the off-season.
The 26-year-old seemingly trusted the Brazilian dentists to do a better job in improving the condition of his teeth than anyone in Brazil. Richarlison decided to apply veneers to all his teeth. For those unknowing, a veneer (also called a dental contact lens) is a layer of material that is placed over a tooth. It helps to provide more strength and resilience to one’s teeth as compared to the natural enamel element that is in a person’s dental structure.
The procedure for applying these ‘lenses’ into one’s teeth can be done in a few appointments. It usually begins with a consultation, before the teeth needs to be cleaned and filled to ensure the veneers fit in perfectly. After that, the lens are placed and one needs to have a follow-up treatment with the dentists too. The Clinic promises the veneers to last from anything between a few years to a decade.
This can be a time-consuming process that can stretch up to many days to up to a few weeks too. But now that he has time to spare during the vacation period, Richarlison took time to get teeth that will make any supermodel proud. He’s also become the latest Brazilian football to get veneers, after the likes of Roberto Firmino, Eder Militao and Philippe Coutinho also got their teeth cleaned up.
Now, the exact price of the dental lens application process isn’t mentioned by Clinica Viotto because one needs to set up personal appointments before the procedure. The cost could differ from person to person depending on the condition of one’s teeth and how many veneers they’d like to apply.
However, the average price of applying veneers is (predictably) cheaper in Brazil than in England. Application of ten porcelain veneers in England could set a person back by over £10,000. The price of one unit of porcelain veneer in Brazil is around £863. Considering that it looks like Richarlison has had these dental lenses applied to at least 20 of his teeth, the entire procedure must’ve cost him upwards of £15,000 – which isn’t really a problem for a millionaire footballer.
The Brazilian forward has not really revealed the reason for applying so many veneers. But some fans are speculating that it might be done for the player to make himself feel good after he admitted to experiencing mental health issues last season.
Richarlison will now be focused on working up his fitness levels during the off-season and returning to Spurs in the best shape of his career. He’ll look to ensure that these new teeth are put to good use by smiling more often and posing for the cameras in his goal celebrations going forward.
