Paul Pogba had a sweet bromance going on with Anthony Martial during his time with Manchester United.
In their six years at Old Trafford, the two Frenchmen linked up for some memorable goals and also pulled off some brilliant celebrations to become the fans’ beloved duo.
The French midfielder left Manchester United in 2022. Martial left the club earlier in 2024.
The two haven’t played together for a long time, with Pogba serving out a suspension for a doping allegation.
Something that happened during the Juventus midfielder’s recent live stream session with IShowSpeed has indicated that the two might not be the closest pals anymore.
During one part of an eventful stream, IShowSpeed asked Pogba some questions from the community.
At one point, one fan made a donation to voice his admiration for PP (his nickname) and some other favored Manchester United players like Toto Mon Amie.
For those unknowing, Toto is the nickname of Martial and many of his teammates at Old Trafford often called him by that.
‘Mon Amie’ translates to ‘my love’. But Pogba didn’t appear to glow up or show signs of genuine happiness to being reminded of his time with Martial at United.
When asked if he and Toto still talk to each other, and when the confused Speed asked him who Toto is, he took some time before claiming that it’s Anthony Martial.
Pogba refused to answer the fan’s question on if he and Martial still speak to each other and just awkwardly started fixing his cap. Even Speed was caught in a bit of an awkward situation before he moved things along with question from other fans who made donations.
This weird interaction has caused for many fans to assume that Pogba and Martial might’ve had a falling off or something. That is because the French midfielder, who is normally a jubilant figure and loves talking happily about his buddies in public, was unusually somber when having to remember Martial.
Pogba does not follow Martial on Instagram or across any social media platform after having reportedly unfollowed him on Instagram in 2020 itself. He hasn’t talked about his friendship with the French striker since leaving Old Trafford.
Interestingly, the Juventus midfielder recently posted a series of pictures on his Instagram where he indicated how much he’s missing playing for the France national team.
One of the pictures featured him waving to the fans with Martial beside him. This has caused some to try to insinuate that he’s in good terms with the forward, but there isn’t enough proof to actually back that.
Pogba didn’t congratulate Martial when he joined AEK Athens earlier this year and his reaction on hearing Toto’s name on Speed’s stream is not that of someone who’s in great terms with the ex-Manchester United forward.
Pogba has disassociated with some other ‘football friends’ in the past too. He was extremely close to Romelu Lukaku during their time at Old Trafford, but they’ve hardly been seen with each other in recent years.
Now, unless he reacts to the social media storm by sharing a surprise link-up with Martial to dismiss the speculation, it’s safe to assume that the two French footballers aren’t exactly buddies anymore.
