Ahead of Fenerbahce’s Europa League clash against Sevilla, manager Jose Mourinho was in front of the press for a routine pre-match press conference, ready for business as usual.
But by the end of the interview, something changed and Jose’s look took a hilarious turn — and it wasn’t because of any tricky journalist questions.
A snapshot of Mourinho from the latter half of the conference has gone viral on social media, leaving fans in splits over the state of his hair. In the image, Mourinho’s usually well-maintained mane looked like it had gone rogue.
With the manager sitting slightly laid back in one shot and leaning forward in another, it appears he’s inadvertently styled himself a half-hearted mohawk. The culprit? Was it his hands or a few frustrating questions from the journalists that have annoyed him on multiple occasions in the past?
What we know for a fact that is that it cannot be Fenerbahce’s results as they sit second in the Turkish Premier League and are in the playoff spots in the Europa League. Unlike his old rival Guardiola, who’s had his struggles with his head and City’s form Mourinho’s look is most likely just an accident.
The image drew hilarious comparisons on social media, with fans pulling things from the internet that looked similar to Mourinho in that instance.
One fan drew a parallel to Creed Bratton from The Office, posting a picture of the eccentric character with his hair messily spiked upward.
Another user compared the Fenerbahce boss to a cockatiel, noting the striking similarity between Mourinho’s unintentional mohawk and the bird’s signature yellow-grey crest that also looks like a mohawk.
After seeing the condition of Jose’s hair, some users said this was the reason he took up a managerial role in Turkey, hinting at an easy hair transplant, which Turkey is famous for.
Another quote of Mourinho’s that was called back by fans was, “When you enjoy what you do, you don’t lose your hair.” Maybe it’s the beginning of the end for the Special One, while he might not have mentioned, has his hair given his future away?
As Fenerbahce prepares for Sevilla, Mourinho will hope for a sharper look for himself off the pitch and a polished performance on the pitch from his side to secure a spot in the Europa League knockouts.
