We are already into gameweek 24, the first double gameweek of the season which has started with a bang — Nottingham Forest has hammered Brighton 7-0! With an exciting long gameweek waiting to unfold and enough action in store, we are coming across another dose of adrenaline. There could be a possible double gameweek again in gameweek 25! Crazy to say the least.
The onus lies with the results of the English League Cup, which is now also known as the Carabao Cup. Arsenal, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Liverpool are vying for the two final berths as the second-leg semi-final action goes underway next week.
Newcastle is up by 2-0 against Arteta’s Arsenal and will be eyeing for another League Cup final after losing out to Manchester United two years back. Whereas, Ange’s Spurs has a slender one goal lead over Slot’s in-form Liverpool who are chasing their second PL title.
A lot of permutations and combinations will go into the mix. Depending upon the results, as many as six teams can have double gameweeks in GW25 but not all of them at once though. Let’s have a quick look at the possible double gameweek fixtures in gameweek 25.
- Liverpool — Arne Slot’s infantry who are leading the table and already have a double gameweek in the ongoing GW24 facing Bournemouth and Everton, can have two fixtures in GW25. This would be in lieu of a blank in GW29, if they manage to beat Spurs and sail through the finals of the Carabao Cup. A home fixture against Wolves and an away duty at Villa Park will be in line then.
- Arsenal — If the Gunners can overcome the 0-2 deficit and edge past Howe’s boys to reach the League Cup final then they would face Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium and board a bus ride to Leicester.
- Aston Villa — Liverpool reaching the final of the Carabao Cup would see Villa having a double gameweek in GW25. And after booking a direct spot in the last-16 of the UCL, Emery’s side can face Ipswich and Liverpool at the Villa Park.
- Chelsea — Maresca’s Chelsea have revived their fortunes this season and the race for an UCL berth is right on track. If Arsenal makes it to the finals of the Carabao Cup, the Blues will have two away fixtures in GW25 — Brighton and Arsenal.
- Tottenham Hotspur — Ange Postecoglou can draw some salvation from an injury-plagued season marred by dismal performances, if the Australian gaffer can guide Spurs to a major cup final in years. In managing to do so, he will present themselves with two games in gameweek 25 — one against Manchester United at home and the other against Fulham away from home.
- Fulham — Marco Silva’s side too can have a double date in gameweek 25 if Spurs enters the final of the League Cup. In such a scenario, Fulham will be up against Nottingham Forest, who bounced back in style after the 0-5 drubbing at the hands of Bournemouth last week and Tottenham Hotspurs. Both of the fixtures will be played out at Fulham’s home turf.
We have already seen a record number of chips being played in the current double gameweek and there could be a serious overhaul in the next gameweek as several teams can have two fixtures. The all-new assistant manager chip can be very handy and we will have a sample size by then. Play your chips wisely and if possible, hold your transfers for the time being.
We will keep a close tab on the developments and make sure you remain posted with the latest FPL equations. Wish you a happy PL weekend and hope you score a lot of points in fantasy.
