Juventus Women put on a masterclass against AC Milan, securing a dominant 6-0 victory that reaffirmed their supremacy in Serie A Femminile.
The result not only extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points over second-placed Inter Milan, but also underscored their attacking prowess—boasting the league’s highest goal tally, 51—while maintaining the second-best defensive record, conceding just 16 goals, two more than Inter.
Taking to social media about the big win, popular football app OneFootball posted a graphic highlighting the victory. While the scoreline, goalscorers, and match details were spot on, it was the background image that ignited controversy. Instead of featuring Cristiana Girelli—the hattrick hero of the match—OneFootball used a picture of Swiss international Alisha Lehmann, a decision that left fans fuming.
The Italian striker managed the hattrick feat in the first half itself, scoring in minutes 26, 31, 39. With three goals in 13 minutes pretty much ending Milan’s hopes of a win early in the game.
Lehmann, who came on as a second-half substitute in the game, had little influence compared to Girelli, who ran the show with three goals.
Which has led social media to believe OneFootball’s choice was driven not by performance but by Lehmann’s high-profile public image, often associated with her popularity and beauty beyond the pitch. It was evident the image was selected with an aim to bring in more views and clicks.
Girelli has been a key figure for Juventus Women this season, consistently delivering attacking returns when it matters. Girelli has scored 13 goals in 15 games in the league. Since joining for Juventus on a free in 2018, she’s become a club legend, scoring 123 goals in just 186 appearances.
Lehmann, while a talented player in her own right, has not been a central figure in Juventus’ campaign, making the selection of her image even more baffling for fans.
Social media quickly erupted with backlash, with fans calling out OneFootball for what they saw as a blatant attempt to leverage Lehmann’s popularity rather than acknowledging Girelli’s stellar performance on the night.
“Girelli scored a hattrick and Onefootball puts her on the front page. 82′ minute substitute. A famous nobody with minimal minutes this year. Bought only for IG likes,” commented a user.
While another said, “Using a photo of Girelli who scored a hat-trick, instead of using a photo of Alisha Lehmann who came on in the second half, is a big mistake. Alisha Lehmann is on the team because she is the wife of Juventus’ new signing Douglas Luiz. She is a mediocre player, she just has a nice a**.”
