Chelsea women’s sensation Sam Kerr has been entangled in some ugly controversy because of her actions against a police officer. The 31-year-old was involved in an incident in January 2023, when she abused a Metropolitan Police officer in London by calling him ‘f****** stupid and white’.
Kerr faced a lawsuit on racism charges. This is because there is video evidence of her interaction with the officer. After a lengthy legal case, the Chelsea superstar has been acquitted of all charges. The jury handling the case found her not guilty of racially abusing the officer.
The Australian footballer has voiced her pleasure at this, stating; “While I apologise for expressing myself poorly on what was a traumatic evening, I have always maintained that I did not intend to insult or harm anyone and I am thankful that the jury unanimously agreed.”
Despite her legal acquittal, the people to have actually seen her interaction video with the officer refuse to believe her argument. Many fans are crying hypocrisy with Kerr escaping charges because she was a female footballer.
Moreover, some are even wondering what would’ve happened had a white Premier League footballer called a colored police officer ‘black’.
There are even calls being made for Chelsea to terminate Kerr’s contract as a way to punish her. That’s because some fans feel this verdict sets the wrong example and demeans the white police officer who was insulted by Kerr.
What is relatively clear is that the Chelsea forward has lost the respect of many fans with her actions. She will continue playing at the top level for the Blues, but this ugly interaction will remain as a black stain on her glittering career.
