Liverpool Sell Out Hong Kong Stadium Just for a Training Session

Liverpool, Manchester United, Premier League

When Jurgen Klopp became Liverpool’s manager back in late 2015, very few people were expecting him to turn the club around the way he did. While some people were optimistic, no one was expecting the institution to become the strongest team in England at the moment and having won the Premier League twice after decades of not even getting close to winning it.

Furthermore, Klopp’s intense playing style garnered a lot of praise from football fans all over the world, giving Liverpool an identity that endeared them to that public. Especially considering how Manchester City have been so dominant in the league under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, giving the Reds a feeling of being underdogs.

Therefore, after winning the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League, the 2019/20 English Premier League, and a couple of cups, Jurgen Klopp announced he was leaving by the end of the 2023/24 season and was replaced by now-former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot. There were doubts outside of Anfield Road regarding the Dutchman’s ability to lead the team after such a storied manager, but he silenced the doubters by winning the league in his first season.

Now as the reigning Premier League champions, the club was recently doing an open preseason training session in Hong Kong and sold out the stadium, much to the joy of the fans. This highlights how much of a world wide hit the team has become with football fans.

This took place at the Kai Tak Stadium, featuring more than 25,000 fans. Some of the most stand out moments include the fans signing the club’s signature song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, much to the pleasure of the players and the coaching staff.

Furthermore, this golden era of the Reds has come with the added bonus of their lifelong rivals, Manchester United, constantly failing since manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in the summer of 2013. An endless amount of flop signings, failing managers, and poor decisions have led the Red Devils to a historical decline, to the point they finished 15th in the Premier League last season and lost the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspurs.

Now, adding an insult to their injury, it has been reported that Liverpool have surpassed them in terms of commercial revenue for the first time in the Premier League era. This is a huge blow for the Red Devils and a major coup for Liverpool since it further cements their period of dominance.

The big challenge for Liverpool this season is going to be the possibility of winning the Premier League twice in a row for the first time since the competition’s rebranding back in 1992. Signings such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Hugo Ekitike seems to suggest that is the club intention, giving Slot a lot more squad depth and already replacing the loss of fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.

Regardless of what happens, there is no denying that the last decade has been good for Liverpool since Klopp’s arrival and they intent to keep that way with Slot.
