British striker Callum Wilson has always been considered one of the most underrated strikers and attackers in the Premier League as he has always delivered but has never had the fame that others like Harry Kane, Alexander Isak or Gabriel Jesus have had.
Wilson is a fast, strong, and lethal striker, but injuries have often hampered him to the point where, sadly, his physique isn’t what it once was. In recent years we have seen him play for AFC Bournemouth, with whom he played from 2014 to 2020, and then he went to play for Newcastle United, with whom he played from 2020 to 2025.
During his final years at Newcastle and as new players have arrived at the team, Wilson has lost the prominence with which he arrived despite having won the EFL Cup with them in this current year 2025, so the English striker recently left for Graham Potter’s West Ham United for absolutely free.
And it was during the revelation of his new transfer that many Wilson and West Ham United fans focused on the salary the Englishman will receive to play for Potter’s team, as it is much lower than what he received at Newcastle United.
According to the grapevine on social media, Wilson is supposedly getting only £6000 per week at West Ham. Certainly a very low figure compared to what he earned during his time with Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth. With Newcastle, he earned almost £53,000 per week throughout his time with them, while with AFC Bournemouth, he earned almost £69,000 during his final season there, the 2024/2025 season, but previously earned between £46,000 and £34,000.
There are many West Ham fans who are currently concerned and upset by West Ham’s decision to sign Wilson, given that the striker failed to score a single goal in his 18 appearances in the Premier League last season. But at a salary of just 6k per week, this makes the transfer very feasible but there’s more to the figures than what meets the eye.
Highly regarded journalist David Ornstein also confirmed that the player’s low salary came with incentives regarding his performances during the upcoming season.

As per sources, Wilson was earning about £60,000 per week at Newcastle United and his new contract with the Hammers is based on how much he can be available. The striker had issues with injuries throughout his time with the Magpies, which makes this situation a lot more logical.
Callum Wilson proposed West Ham deal is structured where 90% of his wages would be based on pay as you play. The agent fee would also be appearance based.

If reports are to be believed, Wilson earned £60,000 per week at Newcastle so a similar wage at West Ham would be worth… pic.twitter.com/87Rz4CTxHn
All of this could potentially amount to 54,000 pounds per week on bonuses alone. If that is added to the base salary, it would make the 60,000 weekly pounds he was getting from Newcastle. While some West Ham fans might think that this is just a complicated way of doing the same thing as the Magpies, it ensures that Wilson has to stay available and has to perform in order to get those wages.
It is a smart decision from West Ham and even from Wilson. Both sides are making sure to get something from the other and also allows the striker to have a chance to become competitive again after such a torrid time with injuries.
