The 2025/26 season for FPL will see a new revamped chip system. Last season FPL tried to experiment by adding a new mystery chip called the assistant manager, that would give points to managers and your overall score. It was quite confusing for the general player and led to high point swings if done correctly. Seeing the negative feedback, the Fantasy team has decided to can the mystery chip but rather go for a different approach this season.
We are now set to have double chips throughout the season, similar to how last season’s wildcard chip used to work. You can use your FPL chips twice in a season, but it has to be used before the Gameweek 19 deadline which is the first half of the season. It will not get carried over.

If you have played FPL before, you would only use these chips during the latter stages when you would have blank or double Gameweeks due to shifting of games because of Carabao cup and Fa cup fixtures. In the first half of the season, the chip usage was very less as it was not optimal to waste such powerful chips for normal Gameweeks.
The Fantasy team saw this and decided to add these chips to earlier fixtures to make the strategy more interesting and different from prior seasons.
How these chips work?
In Fantasy Premier League (FPL), chips are special power-ups that allow you to make strategic moves to gain a significant points advantage. You get a limited number of each chip per season, so using them at the right time is crucial. For the 2025/26 season, you get two of each chips, with one set available for the first half of the season and another for the second half.
Here’s a breakdown of how each FPL chip works:
Wildcard
- What it does: Allows you to make unlimited free transfers for a single Gameweek.
- Key features:
- Unlike the “Free Hit” chip, the changes you make with a Wildcard are permanent.
- A Wildcard is often used when your squad needs a major overhaul due to injuries, suspensions, or poor performance.
- Best to use if your team is looking in a rough shape, this chip could be useful after 3-4 Gameweeks after seeing how teams are lining up and which players to add to your team.
Bench Boost
- What it does: The points scored by your four benched players are added to your team’s total for a single Gameweek.
- Key features:
- In FPL only your selected starting 11 points are added, after the Gameweek deadline passes your subs are locked in and cannot be changed.
- If your subs have great fixtures and you have a benching headache, you can use this chip to add your bench points to your overall score.
Triple Captain
- What it does: Triples the points of your captain for one Gameweek, instead of the usual double points.
- Key features:
- If one of your players has a great fixture and you want to bank the maximum points, you can earn triple the points.
- If your captain doesn’t play, the triple points bonus goes to your vice-captain just like normal captaincy.
Free Hit
- What it does: Allows you to make unlimited free transfers for a single Gameweek. After the Gameweek is over, your squad reverts to the way it was before you used the chip.
- Key features:
- Unlike the wildcard, this chip will select a team for one week only.
- You can use this chip if you don’t want to wildcard because you like your squad structure and want to target a few players for a good fixture, that you would only like to have for one Gameweek.
- Your banked transfers will be lost when you play this chip.
