No Salah, No Haaland in FPL? High-Risk GW1 Draft Explained

Fantasy Premier League

For years, FPL has been defined by a simple, yet agonizing choice: which of the premium assets do you pick? For many seasons, the answer has been some combination of Mohamed Salah and/or Erling Haaland. These two FPL titans have consistently been the highest-scoring players, making them essential cogs in the wheel of a successful team.

This Draft is for the risk takers out there and if you are one of them, this is for you. The biggest risk of going without Salah and Haaland is the captaincy dilemma. These two are often the highest-owned captaincy choices, with their effective ownership rising to 150-170% in Gameweeks and when they deliver a massive haul, their owners can shoot up the ranks. You can lose big and eventually find yourself in a very uncomfortable position. This is not recommended if you want to win your mini leagues. It is a high-risk, high-reward strategy that challenges the very foundations of FPL.

If you do go without the two heavy hitters, you can have Saka, Bruno, and Palmer all of whom are penalty takers and their clubs talisman. Van Dijk and Murillo could provide the benefit from the defensive contribution rule, Pedro Porro will be on set pieces due to Maddison’s injury and be a great differential asset. Diouf is set to play LWB under Potter and could provide some good attacking threat. Wirtz could cover for Salah and Sarr is a great asset in that exciting Crystal Palace team. Watkins and Joao Pedro give us a good attacking force, in this team you can hedge your bets by having assets from various top teams.
