Best FPL Replacements for Jeremie Frimpong After Hamstring Injury Blow

Fantasy Premier League

Jeremie Frimpong has suffered a hamstring injury and will be out until the end of the International break in September. You can read more about his injury here. The Dutchman is currently owned by 23.9% of the player base and is the third most owned defender in FPL at the moment. His price has not fallen yet but could drop after tonight’s deadline so you should be looking to transfer him out due to his heavy £6.0m price tag.

Here are the trends that fellow managers are following to transfer out Frimpong:

Managers are targeting Gabriel, Cucurella and the knee jerk managers going for Ballard. With Frimpong commanding such a heavy price tag you can easily swap to a premium defender. Here are a few options to consider if you go that route:

Arsenal Defenders: Both Gabriel and Saliba command the same £6.0m price tag and are good for Defcon points, home game to Leeds this week. Unfortunately they do have Liverpool, Forest, Newcastle and Man City after Leeds but any of these two are season keepers. I would personally avoid Calafiori even after his 13 pointer due to competiton from Lewis-Skelly and Timber as well as being a minutes risk due to his prior injuries.

Daniel Muñoz: The Colombian full back’s playstyle is just like Frimpong, making attacking runs constantly on the right flank, putting crosses in and constantly getting into attacking positions. If you want a attacking defender he is one to consider. Palace also have a good fixture run and have great momentum on their side. His heatmap demonstrates how attacking he can be and with 8.6% ownership is a great differential.

Rayan Aït-Nouri: He also has the same £6.0m price tag and offers a route into that Manchester City defence, he is also good for Defcon points, racking up 15 contributions against Wolves. Gvardiol being out also offers the Algerian time to cement his spot and could see Pep opt for a traditional LB this season with Gvardiol returning to CB.

Forest Duo: Both Murillo and Milenković are great options to consider, Forest have really strengthened their team in the transfer market and had it not been for a controversial penalty they would have gotten a clean sheet against Brentford. They also have good fixtures and could be long term holds. Murillo is better for Defcon whereas Milenković is better for his goal threat.

Should you want to free up some money and go for some cheaper options, here are a few players to look at:

Rico Lewis: Rico Lewis looked really great against Wolves, constantly getting into attacking positions, even setting up a tapin for Erling Haaland. He also offers flexibility and moves to the number 6 role mid game kind of like Phillip Lahm. Forest wanted to sign him but he rejected and opted to stay, he is also now also close to an agreement to stay until 2030. 3.2% ownership makes him a crazy differential if you are prepared to take a risk with Pep roulette.

Patrick Dorgu: The Manchester United fullback looked like one of the better players in the team alongside Cunha, he was getting into good crossing positions and even had his shot hit the post. We could see a linkup emerging with him and Sesko. The Red Devils also looked like a much better defensive side against Arsenal only conceding 0.29 xG from open play.
