First Musiala, Now Leoni? Fans Shocked by Expected Injury Return Date of Liverpool Defender

Giovanni Leoni, Jamal Musiala, Liverpool

Jamal Musiala, sit down! You’ve been usurped by Liverpool’s teenage sensation Giovanni Leoni as the most shocking injury return of 2025.

Musiala has been one of the most talked-about footballers since making his debut for Bayern Munich in 2020 as a 17-year-old. Since then, he has only gotten better and better every year and is now seen as the franchise player for both Bayern Munich and the German National Team.

Unfortunately, the German superstar suffered a fractured fibula with a dislocated and broken ankle while playing for Bayern Munich against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Initially expected to be out for a lengthy spell, Musiala is already back on the training ground after just 3 months on the sidelines.

As impressive as this feat might be, it looks set to be eclipsed by Liverpool’s teenage prodigy Giovanni Leoni.

Leoni arrived in Liverpool for a reported fee of £26 million this season after a breakout season at Parma. The two-footed centre back made his debut against Southampton in the EFL Cup in a 2-1 win. However, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which typically sidelines a player for “about a year”.

In a miraculous turn of events, it seems like the Italian centre back is expected to return from injury after just 3 months.

Popular Football app FotMob states Leoni’s expected return to be around late December 2025, which would be rare good news for Liverpool supporters who have had a torrid start to the season.

With just 1 win in 7, the reigning Premier League champions are already 7 points behind league leaders Arsenal. To make matters worse, Liverpool got thrashed by Crystal Palace 3-0 and was dumped out of the EFL cup, the same competition in which Leoni got injured in the previous round.

Fans were left in shock as some users saw this as a glimmer of hope to get Liverpool’s season back on track.
