AMIRI x Barcelona: What to Know About the Five-Year Formalwear Partnership

Amiri, Barcelona, Football Fashion

In a big announcement, AMIRI has been named Barcelona’s Official Formalwear Partner for an ambitious five years, the deal running till the 2029/30 season. This collaboration underscores the fundamental connection between top-tier sports/professional clubs and high fashion, assuring that when the men’s and women’s first teams, along with club officials, step down off a plane for European matches or big tournaments, they look every bit as classy as they play, in terms of modern-day formal fashion.

AMIRI will be in charge of creating and making tailored formalwear collections for a wide range of club employees, as stated in the agreement:

  • The players of the men’s first team
  • The players of the women’s first team
  • Key club executives and board members

The inaugural winter line utilises deep blue wool as the dominating shade, moving away from Barça’s traditional bold blaugrana but yet reflecting identity in subtle ways like as white-on-navy stripes, tailoring detailing, and the clean geometry associated with modern Catalan style.

Men’s clothes include dual-breasted jackets and six-button overcoats, while the women’s items reflect the same tone with single-breasted jackets and flared trousers.

For the summer season, AMIRI will turn to lighter weight materials, shirt-collar jackets and refined knitwear – mixing athletic influence with premium tailoring.

Mike Amiri, the designer behind the namesake brand, is noted for a distinctive look that blends West Coast ease with exquisite craftsmanship. This new collection manages to infuse that energy while honouring Barca’s historic colours, the renowned “Blaugrana” (blue and garnet).

While the FC Barcelona deal is AMIRI’s first major formalwear partnership with a top European football club, the brand is not a complete stranger to the world of elite sports and high-profile athletes.

AMIRI has previously been associated with NFL stars like Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.

AMIRI has also worked with high-profile boxing figures such as Canelo Alvarez.

The AMIRI x FC Barcelona collections exhibit a unique blend of tradition and contemporary beauty. Each piece is expertly created, while also incorporating AMIRI’s unique appearance. Mike Amiri’s designs frequently combine a funky contemporary tailoring, creating a vintage-inspired mentality coupled with some Californian elegance.

The transition to AMIRI signals a departure from the club’s earlier, well-publicized formalwear collaboration with American designer Thom Browne. Thom Browne’s association began in the 2018/19 season and lasted for three years.

This relationship helped establish FC Barcelona as a trendsetter at the crossroads of high fashion and football, setting the bar for other major European clubs.

The players got off the team bus in stylish, cropped suits, 4-bar stripe accents and traditional Browne tailoring. That period helped influence how football spectators regarded the walk-in of the players, although a major chunk of fans disliked the designs.

Hence when Barcelona switched to AMIRI, it wasn’t a new notion. It was a continuation of a strategy— making the club’s style and off-pitch image part of its global identity.

Ultimately, the AMIRI x Barcelona connection is not just about the finely tailored blazers and trousers. In modern football, everything is branding— the walk into the stadium, the airport arrival, the media night, the Champions League tunnel shot. Formalwear is now part of a club’s fashion language. By choosing AMIRI, Barcelona are positioning themselves firmly inside this lavish concept of fashion in world sport.
