History was made as the full-time whistle blew during Manchester City’s visit to West London to face Fulham which ended in a nine-goal thriller which ended 5-4 to the visitors who took all three points back to Manchester.
All eyes were set on star-studded striker Erling Haaland who became the fastest player in Premier League history to reach 100 goals. The Norwegian international broke Alan Shearer’s record of 124 matches, having done the same in 111 matches himself and remains on course to break another one of Shearer’s records, by becoming the all-time top scorer in the Premier League, the current record being 260.
Following the victory, manager Pep Guardiola, who is known for being one of the most masterful tacticians, showed his humorous side once again in the post-match press conference.
The journalists in the media room burst into laughter as the three-time Champions League winner as a manager, opened the press conference by hilariously asking everyone, “Did you enjoy it guys?”. When asked whether he himself enjoyed the match or not the Spaniard provided us with one of the funniest moments of the season so far by saying, “Me? My god, I lose all my hair”.
He was visibly relieved in the press conference after referee Craig Pawson blew the full-time whistle, after Josko Gvardiol’s goal-line clearance denying Fulham an equaliser after being 5-1 down in the second-half, guaranteeing the Citizens three important points in the title race.
Guardiola revealed his thoughts about his players’ performance by adding, “I thought my players, they were happy to work with me. But today, I prove it is not…”, to which the media room cracked up.
The Spaniard further added about the unexpected nature of the Premier League, given how his team went on to concede four consecutive goals after being 5-1 up in the second half. He even threw a friendly jab at the reporters present in front of him by adding, “Everyone start to write articles…Manchester City is back! And after that..to the trash, start again. Everyone in the room, along with Pep himself, saw the funny side of the situation, lightening the mood after a well fought match to retain all three points.
