What We Know About Newcastle Fan Incident At Mercure George Washington Hotel

Newcastle United, Premier League, Sunderland

In an intense Wear-Tyne derby in the Premier League after almost a decade, Sunderland emerged victorious after Nick Woltemade scored an own goal header for the hosts. The Black Cats extended their head-to-head record against the Tyneside team with 6 wins in their last 10 meetings.

Sunderland completely surrounded Newcastle with threat from all the zones and never allowed the Magpies to take control of the game.

However, the man who helped Sunderland find the back of the net was not wearing their jersey. It was Newcastle’s target man, Nick Woltemade, in an attempt to clear the ball, headed it past Ramsdale to gift Sunderland the only goal of the game.

Sunderland were the only team who rose to the magnitude of the occasion and had their 12th man in their stands. The Black Cats were in the groove for the entirety of the game backing the home team for even the slightest tackles and dribbles.

After full time, while the Sunderland fans were enjoying the win, a brawl took place in the George Washington Hotel at Newcastle where some Magpies went haywire.

The exact reason for the brawl is yet to be disclosed but the general perspective is an argument had broke out among the Newcastle fans following their embarrassing loss against bitter rivals.

The Mercure George Washington hotel, located in the town of Washington, is close to the city of Newcastle and has been a major venue for local events and match screenings. One such screening but of a game of huge expectations turned out into chaos as the fans fight seemed inevitable.

“Just after 4pm yesterday (Sunday), we were called to a premises on Stone Cellar Road in Washington in response to a report of a disturbance. It was reported a number of people were fighting inside.

“Upon officer arrival, many of those believed to have been involved had left the area. Enquiries into the report are ongoing to identify anyone involved in the altercation.”. This was stated by a spokesperson of the Northumbria Police who had implemented strict measures across the town to prevent brawls like these.
