Antoine Semenyo has been one of the breakout stars of 2025. The Bournemouth forward from Ghana has been turning heads and attracting interest from big boys like Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and more.
After his recent appearance on a YouTube video, it seems like fans of another London club may deem themselves the favorites to land the tricky forward.
Recently, Semenyo appeared on a Shopping for Retro Football Shirts video with Ellis Platten’s YouTube channel AwayDays.
The video was incredibly fun, and Semenyo’s jovial personality was shining through. However, in the 24-minute video, there came a throwaway statement that perked up the ears of Chelsea fans.
When Semenyo and Platten were discussing Drogba’s 2012 Champions League jersey, Semenyo referred to Chelsea as “We”.
“I was looking at the Champions League badge. It reminds me that goal we scored against Bayern. It’s perfect. I love it.”
Interestingly, he does have a close connection with Chelsea. Semenyo was actually born in Chelsea, London. Being a local, he even had a trial for Chelsea FC during his youth days. While the trial was unsuccessful, Semenyo claims it helped strengthen his resolve.
While clubs like Chelsea are showing genuine interest in the Ghanaian forward and may possibly sign him in the Winter transfer window, Chelsea fans shouldn’t get carried away because of the “We” used in his Drogba comments.
Semenyo has already mentioned in an interview with The Athletic back in October 2024 that he did grow up supporting a London club, but it wasn’t Chelsea.
“I am an Arsenal fan. I don’t conflict the two with my job. It is great to play against Arsenal, a team I have watched all my life, and I want to play for the top clubs as well. In order for that to happen, I need to prove it.”
Despite Semenyo’s past comments on Arsenal, the Drogba/We moment has enough to send Chelsea Twitter into a haywire, sparking speculation that Semenyo might be a Chelsea fan, maybe he supports Chelsea, maybe he’s headed to Chelsea, and more.
Hold on a minute, did he just say the goal “WE” scored against Bayern??? Bring Semenyo to Chelsea ASAP…

@AwobajoS: If we had this brother at left wing today we would have won the game against Newcastle
@RMKaizen: Bring semenyo in January. Play him as an inside forward in a two man striker formation with Joao pedro Semenyo would also play LW/inside Left forward hybrid role
@IsaacJuliusAmo1: His versatility is amazing tho…Very double footed,he can score with his left just like his right, elite striker of the ball…The million dollar question here is that..Can he do it at Chelsea?its almost Sumtyms a grave yard for sum promising players
@Yesulor_m: His fav prem player was Essien, he’s a chelsea fan
@Paulooo16: Very suprised we not even entered the race for Semenyo in January…. Serious Winger and proven and still young.
Regardless of his allegience, Semenyo is a hot prospect and with the transfer window just a few days away, who knows what the future holds for the Bournemouth forward.
Semenyo, who was on target this weekend as Bournemouth drew 1-1 with Burnley, is having an amazing season so far. With 8 goals and 3 assists in 16 appearances, he has been Bournemouth’s standout player and is set to land a big transfer sooner rather than later.
