Turns Out Former Man City Star Edin Dzeko Never Retired and Still Scoring at 39

Edin Dzeko, FC Schalke, Manchester City

Edin Dzeko is a name that never can be forgotten for the 2010s generation of football fans.

He was part of the famous Manchester City team, that won the Premier League in the last minute with an injury time winner from Aguero against Queens Park Rangers.

Infact, he equalized in the 92nd minute to pull the game back for the Cityzens.

Now at almost an age where most footballers are retired or on their last years, Edin Dzeko is on his tour to Germany again after his stint at Wolfsburg at the start of his career.

Dzeko, 39, had completed a transfer to Schalke 04, from Fiorentina.

But no one saw this coming, as the transfer happened behind the scenes in silence and the announcement arrived from the club once the agreement was sealed.

FC Schalke are one of the biggest clubs in germany.

But thanks to the internal conflicts, they are currently competing in the Bundesliga 2, the second division of german football.

Yet Dzeko, did not hesitate to join the club considering their present state but rather their history.

Moreover, Dzeko had the experience of playing in Germany during his Wolfsburg days, having scored 66 goals for the club.

Dzeko is considered one of the underrated strikers of this generation.

He had earned the reputation of a proper, elite No.9, playing for different teams across Europe.

The numbers too justify his reputation, scoring 372 goals and gaining153 assists.

On his debut for Schalke, Dzeko once again displayed his class, scoring a goal, coming off the bench.

Eventually, Schalke managed to draw the game and are currently on top of Bundesliga 2, more closer to reaching a promotion back to the Bundesliga.

Dzeko had not been In good form lately, not being a starter for Fiorentina through the whole season, but that cannot be used against his experience, as a player who has scored everywhere he went.

Dzeko had accumulated 72 goals and 28 assists for Manchester City in his four years at the club, often competing with a club legend like Sergio Aguero for the striker position.

At Roma, he attained his peak, scoring 119 goals and securing the Serie A Golden boot in the 16/17 season.

Moving to Inter Milan, he fairly succeeded often paired with Lautaro Martinez, but managed to get 31 goals to his name.

He was one of the starters in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final, but was denied the chance to win by margins.

Dzeko’s move to Schalke defines the spirit of commitment and hunger to play, despite ageing concerns.

With a promotion on line, Dzeko might turn to be a big inspiration to upcoming footballers, to bring out the passion in achieving success with a team, rather than chasing money-driven careers.
