Social media can be a weird, wild place to be. You can go from watching funny videos of cats one second to suddenly watching national news the next.
One of the most amusing of things to watch on social media has been how brands and businesses interact with the masses via discourse on trending topics.
When it comes to football, Domino’s Pizza and RyanAir lead the way in this regard.

And the new entrants to the scene appear to be WhatsApp and Proton VPN
Recently it came to light that the admin for WhatsApp’s X account might actually be an Arsenal supporter.
It all kicked off when Arsenal Inside, a French Arsenal fan page posted about the official WhatsApp account replying to their and ESPN UK’s posts.

In response, the WhatsApp X admin tweeted confirming that they were indeed an Arsenal supporter, with the words “yep, it’s official”.

This was followed by a tweet that read “coyg” (which is short for Come On You Gunners, a common Arsenal slogan) a week later.
Such vehement support of their rivals certainly triggered Tottenham Hotspur fans
The two clubs share bitter rivalry with Arsenal famously clinching the English Premier League at White Hart Lane (Spurs’ former home ground) after a 2-2 draw in 2004.
A cheeky Tottenham fan even put up screenshot of him attempting to delete WhatsApp off his device.

Just when the online war was looking one-sided, The Lilywhites found support in Proton VPN.
The popular VPN service provider pledged their allegiance to Spurs by posting “COYS tbh” (where COYS stands for Come On You Spurs).

Spurs supporters took the opportunity to express their happiness at Proton VPN being on their side in this exchange, with one user calling it a “Goated VPN” to which the Proton admin replied: “We’re staying up”.
That response comes amid Spurs facing the prospect of relegation from the English Premier League after a poor season that has seen them change three managers in the span of a single year.

Arsenal fans have not missed opportunities to rub the prospects of relegation into Spurs’ faces, with one fan going as far as publicly mocking defender Cristian Romero with a Championship dig.
With only five games to go and a heated relegation battle about to reach its dramatic finale come the last day of the season, the Proton VPN admin will be hoping they aren’t made to mince their words.
Likewise, with Arsenal dropping precious points in their 2-1 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday in a nailbiting title race, the WhatsApp admin will be hoping they aren’t left with egg on their face on the final day of the season.
