Football meme creators has found a new “Vini Crying Meme” template to exploit. A widely shared viral clip of Vinicius Junior breaking down in tears—seemingly out of nowhere—is actually a heartfelt moment from a Brazilian TV interview.
However, the internet was busy weaponizing it into memes, dismissing it as just another “crybaby” moment from the Real Madrid star.
While the sudden clip circulating on social media looks incredibly abrupt out of context, the forward was actually overcome with emotion during a pre-match segment on the show Domingão com Huck.
The producers surprised the Brazil winger with a deeply moving video message from his grandmother, Nilza, who helped raise him. Ahead of Brazil’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash against Japan, his grandmother sent a broadcast message expressing her immense pride:
”He was a shy little boy. Football was everything to him. He slept beside me until he was 16 years old. Vini, my grandson, may Our Lady of Aparecida always protect you. Your grandmother loves you very, very, very much.”
Seeing the message, Vini was instantly moved to tears, leading the host and studio to console the player. Vinícius then explained the deep bond he shares with her, saying:
”I spent sixteen years living with her. She’s a very important person to me because my father always lived far away. My mother, my brothers, and I always lived with my grandmother. She did everything for us, even though she had a very small house where I had to sleep in her room. I’m speechless. She is someone who completely shaped my life. Whenever I can, I cherish every moment with her because I know that time passes and people eventually leave. I cherish every moment with her and my family, who did everything to make my dream come true.”
Despite the emotional weight of the interview, social media aggregators and meme pages quickly stripped the beautiful moment of its substance for engagement. By completely cutting out his grandmother’s segment, they edited the broadcast footage into a sarcastic, out-of-context meme video for the internet to mock.

The edited clip shows him sitting calmly in a casual track jacket before instantly bursting into intense, heavy sobbing without warning, creating a viral template for dramatic overreactions. It has since been widely circulated across social media, adopted by users looking to either celebrate the humor or mock the dramatic transition..

But this is not the first time that meme pages have used him as “meme content” for crying.
The internet’s obsession with Vini’s tears was largely started by rival football fanbases. Opposing supporters frequently targeted his intense on-field passion, weaponizing his expressive nature to label him a “crybaby” or a chronic complainer.
But the real turning point that solidified him as a global meme template occurred in March 2024 during a pre-match international press conference.
Overwhelmed by relentless questions from the media regarding the severe, systemic racist abuse he routinely endured in Spanish stadiums, Vinícius broke down, covered his face with his hands, and openly wept. As he said, “I just want to play football, but it’s hard to move forward… I feel less and less like playing.”
Despite the immense gravity of the situation, meme creators clipped the visual of him sobbing in front of the press. They completely detached it from the anti-racism context, turning it into a blank green-screen template used across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Twitter posts to humorously depict over-the-top heartbreak or despair over trivial daily life inconveniences.

This meme has already turned into a occupying a space in sports pop culture similar to the iconic “Crying Jordan” meme.

This ability to launch into intense crying without any buildup isn’t just a random trait—it actually mirrors how Vinicius’ mind works on the pitch.
It resonates perfectly with his footballing style, just like his insane dribble and goal attempt against Japan in the round of 32, which was denied by a flying save from Zion Suzuki.
Vini’s brain operates at a completely different speed than normal people; he connects one thought to another much faster than a normal human being.
On the pitch, that hyper-speed processing allows him to go from a standing start to a devastating, unpredictable burst of skill in a split second.
Off the pitch, that same rapid-fire emotional processing means he feels things instantly and intensely, transitioning from calm to completely overcome with emotion without the usual slow buildup.
Meanwhile, Brazil defeated Japan with a scoreline of 2-1.
Thanks to goals from Casemiro (56′) and Gabriel Martinelli (90+5′), they came back after trailing to an early goal scored by Kaishu Sano (29′). With this win, Brazil has entered the Round of 16, where they will face the winner of the match between Norway and Ivory Coast.
