Heated controversy took place at Stade Jean-Bouin, the home arena of Paris FC, after the home team defeated RC Strasbourg Alsace 2-1 in their recent Ligue 1 match on September 19, 2026.
The incident took place when Paris FC manager Liam Rosenior celebrated aggressively in an unhinged way in front of the Strasbourg fans after his team secured a 2-1 victory. Liam was Strasbourg’s manager and coach before; his actions led to a physical confrontation between players and staff of both teams.
Rosenoir was seen slapping his chest and raising both of his hands into the air after the final whistle. Followed by players and staff of the rival team confronting Paris FC players, which led to a brief, heated interaction.
Rosenoir clarified that his celebration was fueled by Strasbourg fans who insulted him throughout the game. The audience also confirmed that the rival team’s fans were constantly hurling insults at Rosenoir, and the win of Paris FC served as a savage reply to them .
He revealed in the post-match interview that the rival team’s fans insulted him and his family, so he celebrated his win as a reply to those people.
“I want to make this very clear: a small section. Strasbourg is a fantastic football club, with great people who work for the club, and great people who support the club. For me, to celebrate in that way was a message. A message to a group of people who never wanted me to be successful at that club. But I’m not going to say anymore than that.”
In an interview given to Ligue1 after the match Rosenoir said that
“The people in the club [Strasbourg] who know me know I’ve always been respectful, I’ve always wanted the best for that football club. I still do want the best for that football club.
But when I heard the chants , I understand French, I understand the context, the language, that’s a step too far.”
Football supporters describe Rosenoir’s celebration as savage and deserved, given that the Strasbourg fans were insulting him.
At the same time, a portion of fans are calling the reaction too childish and bringing up his past disastrous stint as Chelsea head coach. Some of the comments say he has the ego of José Mourinho and the trophy cabinet of Andoni Iraola.
Liam Rosenoir served as the head coach of Strasbourg from July 2024 till he joined Chelsea in January 2026. He was dismissed on 22nd April from Chelsea. While he was at Chelsea, even though he won the opening match 5-1 against Charlton Athletic, he could not deliver a win later on. With five consecutive league defeats without scoring, basically Chelsea’s worst performance since 1912, he was dismissed.
Rosenoir joined Paris FC on 7 July 2026. He was able to deliver 3 wins out of 5 matches in Ligue 1. At present, his team, Paris FC, is in 3rd position in Ligue1 while Strasbourg is in 8th. Paris FC has their next match on 11th October against Lorient.
