Gossip: Barcelona eye Liverpool flop who simply could not fit in

Barcelona, Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool

Often, we see cases of stars who explode in clubs and become an integral part of their systems yet supposedly become flops in other clubs who seek them out. We could potentially be witnessing such a situation unfold in real time in front of the footballing world.

Jeremie Frimpong, a name commonly associated when fans hear the word “Right Back” or “Right-Wing Back”, exploded onto the footballing scene under Xabi Alonso’s title-winning Bayern leverkusen, where he ended up outshining potentially everybody on the pitch.

The High-Flying wing back, under Alonso, had pillared himself as a high pressing wing back who could overload the opposing team while carrying the ball upfront to support the midfield and attack, thanks to his high pace.

In a classic 3-4-2-1 or a 3-2-5 system, Frimpong was a lethal threat for any opponents that faced Leverkusen. His high pace and deadly overloading helped Alonso achieve a historical domestic double campaign in the 23-24 season.

After his historical move to Liverpool, It all changed for Frimpong.

Struggling to convert his minutes on the pitch to goals, ever since Iraola has taken over Liverpool, Frimpong has only started 2 prem games and has mainly been tied to late sub-ons and early Cup games, leading to a frustration for the high pacer.

Due to his lack of performance at Liverpool, Frimpong could not gain minutes even for the Dutch side during the international break as new boss Xavi preferred Real Madrid’s Denzel Dumfries instead.

This is where Barcelona enters the conversation.

According to recent rumours, Barcelona have been eyeing the Dutch Wing-Back and fans claim he could perfectly settle into Hansi’s system.

Frimpong’s pace ability is what suits Barcelona the best. A team filled with world’s finest speedsters like Yamal, Gordon and Adeyemi could appreciate Frimpong’s abilities more than any other team in the World.

His high pace and overloading abilities would support Barcelona’s right winger Lamine Yamal and would allow Jules Kounde to play at his designated Center-Back position, seamlessly allowing Frimpong to settle into Flick’s system.

Liverpool has set a 35M€, which could attract Barcelona more into signing him.

Whether this move happens or not, fans are surely excited to see Frimpong’s addition to Barcelona and Liverpool fans are surely happy to send him away.
