The Lilywhites are looking to bounce back after a disastrous start to the campaign, and in the past few matchdays they have racked up wins over Coventry City, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
During the summer transfer window, Spurs went through a major overhaul to strengthen the team’s engine room, and signed Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United and Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United.
However, they still lacked a creative attacking midfielder in the middle of the park to make fluid transitions between attack and defence, as well as break down the opposition backline with passes behind the defenders to their attackers.
The attacking midfield role was played by Xavi Simons, but he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee and has been sidelined for an extended period of time.
James Madisson and Dejan Kulusevski are alternative options who can be deployed in the hole behind the strikers, but the pair have recently returned from long-term injuries and have yet to reach peak fitness to deliver consistently at the highest level.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are seeking to revisit their interest in Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White over a potential move in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Spurs wanted to bring Gibbs-White to N17 last summer and were heavily linked to sign him during the transfer window, but ultimately he decided to stay at Nottingham Forest and put pen to paper on a contract extension.
At one point, Tottenham Hotspur were accused of making illegal contact with Gibbs-White’s agents by the Tricky Trees owner Evangelos Marinakis, and it remains to be seen if he will once again block a move to the N17.
This term, the 26-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions so far and contributed to three goals, while he remains the leading goalscorer among Premier League midfielders with 13 goals this calendar year.
Nottingham Forest are 19th in the league table, and in the last five fixtures they have suffered four defeats and mustered only one draw, and they have already been knocked out of the EFL Cup by Leeds United in the second round.
The Tricky Trees are in a tough spot, and boss Oliver Glasner will need to turn things around in their favour, and if things do not change at the City Ground, Morgan Gibbs-White could be tempted to jump ship and join Spurs, who are on the rise under manager Roberto De Zerbi.
At Tottenham Hotspur, Roberto De Zerbi’s system could suit Gibbs-White; the Italian manager prefers to build from the back with a lot of short and long passes, focusing the attack from midfield, with wingers and others making runs behind the opposition backline.
But Morgan Gibbs-White will not come cheap, and with his contract at Nottingham Forest running until 2028, the club are under no pressure to sell him to a fellow Premier League club on a cut-price deal.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will return for Gibbs-White in the upcoming transfer window, and this time through the right channels and a concrete offer.
