Aston Villa boost an impressive home record and with the situation surrounding Alexander Isak and Newcastle, most managers considered Konsa a safe bet and decided to go with the Villa defender in their teams over someone like Van de Ven, Diouf or De Cuyper.
The match was looking like a stalemate until the 66th minute when Konsa would make an error. With the score tied 0-0, Anthony Gordon was through on goal and Konsa was the last man who dragged the defender down. Konsa was adjudged to have denied a clear goalscoring opportunity for the Newcastle forward.
Referee Craig Pawson quite rightly gave the centre back his marching orders. Although it was bad for our FPL teams, given how close the game was, he probably saved his team from a loss and got them a point for a draw.
It shows how even though it was a boring and uneventful match, a minor mistake can drastically change and affect our FPL plans. Many managers had decided to use the Bench Boost chip but are now having to reconsider their strategy.

A commentator from Dutch media outlet Ziggo Sport was heard saying “Just Unlucky i had Konsa in my FPL.” Describing how most managers felt after his sending off against Newcastle.
The remark, delivered with a hint of sympathy and humor, instantly went viral on social media. FPL managers, who had started the new season with high hopes, took to X /Twitter and Reddit to share their collective misery. For many, Konsa was a popular and budget-friendly choice in their FPL squads.
Konsa’s red card should not have a big impact given his £4.5 million pound price. His price could decrease with over 200,000 transfers out. He is currently the second most sold defender after Gvardiol, who was not in the Manchester City squad.
Given his red card was not violent conduct, he will only miss the Brentford fixture and the fixture run for Aston Villa is pretty good so there is no reason to sell him at this stage.

The commentator getting annoyed just shows what a cultural and widespread impact the game has had. This moment highlights the growing influence of FPL on the football viewing experience. What was once a niche online game has become a mainstream part of the Premier League ecosystem. Commentators and pundits, many of whom play the game themselves, are increasingly comfortable with referencing FPL terminology, knowing that a significant portion of their audience will understand and appreciate the inside joke. This just demonstrates how wide known and beloved the game of Fantasy Premier League has become around the world.
