Tottenham Hotspur have slogged through one of their worst top-flight seasons in recent memory, and the raw data is impossible to ignore. Spurs currently sit in 16th place with just 29 points from 29 matches; barely a point above the relegation zone. They’re stuck in an 11-game winless rut in the Premier League that goes all the way back to 2025.
Looking at the expected goals (xG) table, they’re down in 17th, which shows they aren’t even creating enough chances to say they’re unlucky. The team have picked up only two points from their last seven home games. It’s turned the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from a fortress into a place of pure dread.
Three different managers have tried to steady the ship. The club fired Ange Postecoglou, sacked Thomas Frank on 11th February, and handed the keys to interim Igor Tudor. It’s the look of a club that’s completely lost their way.
On 5th March 2026, Crystal Palace turned up at N17 and walked away with three points Spurs couldn’t afford to lose. Dominic Solanke put Spurs ahead in the 34th minute after VAR wiped out Ismaila Sarr‘s opener, but the game flipped four minutes later. Micky van de Ven dragged Sarr back into the box and got sent off. Sarr tucked away the penalty, and things fell apart from there.
Jorgen Strand Larsen and Sarr both scored off Adam Wharton passes in first-half stoppage time, sending Palace into the break 3-1 up and Spurs fans heading for the car park. Tudor watched his ten men try to fight back in the second half, but the damage was done. Spurs still haven’t won a single league match in 2026, and Opta now places their relegation probability at 16.10 per cent.
TNT camera man sprinkles salt to the wounds of the Tottenham fans after the Crystal Palace clash
Then came the clip that blew up on social media. After the final whistle, a TNT Sports cameraman spent five long minutes slowly moving across the faces of the Spurs fans who stayed, hollow-eyed, slumped over, just staring at the grass like they were looking for an explanation. TNT had already used drones during the game to show the massive crowds leaving early, but the post-match footage was what really hit home.
As those fans sat there in silence, Harry Styles’ “As It Was” started playing over the speakers. The line “you know it’s not the same as it was” landed with a precision that no script writer could have manufactured. X user @Im_RobM caught the moment perfectly, posting: “The TNT Sports cameraman spending 5 minutes at full time showing all the depressed Spurs fans left in the stadium as Harry Styles sings ‘you know it’s not the same as it was’ over the sound system. Top-tier content.”
The post went viral immediately. @TalkingTHFC added: “We’re going down. Tudor hasn’t got it. The players are already planning their next moves. The leadership is rotten. I’ve never been so angry or upset with Spurs in my entire life.”Meanwhile, @Thfc_RR tore into the club’s board, arguing that firing Ange was a mistake, hiring Frank was a mess, and waiting so long to sack him was a joke.
What’s gone wrong for Tottenham all season?
The real trouble at Tottenham goes way deeper than one red card. Former striker Peter Crouch said the club are in serious bother, pointing out that Palace basically coasted through the game in second gear and still won easily. Injuries have also stripped Tudor of Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison, and Dejan Kulusevski simultaneously.
That’s left the squad looking incredibly thin. On top of that, the fans are demanding some actual fight from the players, and when that goes missing, the atmosphere at the stadium gets nasty fast. On the pitch, Spurs keep giving away cheap goals through individual mistakes, and Van de Ven’s red card on Thursday was a perfect example. With a trip to Anfield up next and the league suspending Van de Ven, things look bleak. People are starting to talk about relegation, and it doesn’t sound so crazy anymore.
