GOLF WANG Could Take Over Barcelona Shirt For El Clasico

Barcelona and Spotify look set to continue one of football’s more unusual traditions for this season’s El Clásico.

Since October 2022, the club has used its biggest fixture of the year to hand over its shirt sponsorship space to a different global music star, replacing the Spotify logo with the artist’s own branding for the match.

The list so far reads like a festival lineup: Drake kicked things off, followed by Rosalía, The Rolling Stones, KAROL G, Coldplay, Travis Scott, Ed Sheeran, and most recently Olivia Rodrigo this past May, who became the youngest artist to feature in the collaboration.

For the next instalment, set for Real Madrid’s visit to Spotify Camp Nou on October 25, American rapper, producer, and fashion designer Tyler, The Creator has emerged as the clear frontrunner.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, discussions between Barcelona and Spotify are described as advanced, though not yet finalized, with several other names reportedly considered before Tyler moved to the front of the queue.

If confirmed, the shirt won’t carry his name or an album title, instead expected to display the word “GOLF,” a reference to GOLF WANG, the streetwear and fashion label he founded.

Unlike some of the brand pairings that have come before him, Tyler’s connection to the club appears to be genuine rather than manufactured for the occasion.

Photos from one of his own concerts show him performing on stage in an actual Barcelona shirt, the club’s red-and-yellow striped kit, well before any collaboration talk began.

One fan reacted to the resurfaced photo by writing, “Fair enough Tyler fairs. You’re going to enjoy watching Flick ball,” a nod both to his apparent fandom and to how entertaining Barcelona have been to watch under manager Hansi Flick.

If the deal goes through as expected, Tyler would become the ninth artist to take part in the initiative, and the first with such a strong footing in fashion and streetwear culture rather than music alone, a slightly different profile from a lineup that has otherwise leaned toward mainstream pop and established global superstars.

Barcelona and Spotify have yet to make anything official, but with the Clásico just weeks away, confirmation is expected to follow soon.
