Arsenal’s kit rumour mill has been unusually busy this month, and the latest addition, a reported black base for the 2027/28 third shirt, has already got fan accounts knocking up their own versions of what it might look like.

Before getting carried away with that concept image, it’s worth separating what’s actually been reported from what’s just fan-made. Kit-leak specialist Footy Headlines is the source behind the black-base claim. But reports suggesting gold detailing mean the black-and-yellow shirt in that concept graphic shouldn’t be treated as the leaked design itself. The exact colour combination and design details still haven’t been officially confirmed by Adidas.
Context makes this leak more interesting than it first looks. Black has cropped up in several notable Arsenal kits over the years, including the 2015-16 third kit, the 2017-18 third kit and the 2022-23 away shirt. That last one, which paired black with gold detailing, was particularly distinctive and still stands out as a memorable recent Arsenal design. If the reported gold detailing for 2027/28 turns out to be right, the new third kit could nod to elements of that earlier black-and-gold look.
Yellow, meanwhile, has its own long association with Arsenal’s away kits. The most famous example is probably the “Bruised Banana“, the yellow-and-black zigzag shirt from the 1991-93 period. That design has become one of the club’s most recognisable retro shirts and has inspired later Arsenal releases. That history also helps explain why a fan-made concept would naturally lean towards yellow when imagining a new black Arsenal shirt, even if gold is the colour currently being talked about for the 2027/28 design.
The “fashion-forward” description is another detail worth unpacking. Adidas has increasingly used third kits as a chance for designs that can appeal beyond matchday, with some releases deliberately positioned as lifestyle or streetwear pieces. In this case, the description suggests Arsenal’s 2027/28 third kit could be made to work as casualwear as well as football wear. That said, details like the shirt’s exact cut, materials, graphics and branding haven’t been confirmed.
Fan reaction to the leaked images has ranged from nostalgic to hopeful for something else entirely. One supporter, wished the trefoil branding meant an entirely different kind of shirt altogether:

For now, the reported information is still fairly limited: Arsenal’s 2027/28 third kit is expected to use a black base, with gold reportedly among the possible detailing, and it’s expected to drop around the usual third-kit release period in 2027. The black-and-yellow graphic doing the rounds online is a fan concept rather than an official Adidas design.
Until Adidas or Arsenal officially unveil the shirt, the safest way to view the current reports is as an indication of the colour direction, rather than a confirmed picture of the finished kit.
