Kerkez and Tsimikas Fail to Convince: Liverpool Go Hunting in January

Liverpool

Liverpool have started the Premier League season in decent form, but in their recent encounter with Arsenal, they suffered a narrow defeat and slipped down the league table.

During the summer transfer window, the Reds lost Andrew Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur and failed to bring in a replacement to take over from the Scottish left-back.

Currently, Milos Kerkez and Konstantinos Tsimikas are the available left-back options at manager Andoni Iraola’s disposal, but there have been concerns over their ability to contribute in attack as well as defence.

Kerkez and Tsimikas have made a combined 19 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign, but the pair are yet to register a goal involvement, while young left-back Luke Chambers has only received five minutes of action all season.

With the winter transfer window approaching in a few months, boss Iraola will want to look into the transfer market and bring in reinforcements to strengthen his side and make a stronger push to climb up the Premier League ladder as well as make a deep run in the Champions League.

According to El Nacional (via Transfer News Live), Liverpool are interested in signing Newcastle United star Lewis Hall in the upcoming winter transfer window, as Kerkez and Konstantinos are yet to convince the management.

However, Lewis Hall is not the only left-back option on the Reds’ wishlist, as they are also keeping tabs on Federico Dimarco, El Hadji Malick Diouf, Alvaro Carreras, and Maximiliano Araujo.

This term, Lewis Hall has made 12 appearances across the Premier League and EFL Cup, while contributing to three goals, and has become the undisputed left-back in the first-team playing every single minute under manager Matthias Jaissle.

The 22-year-old’s contract with the Magpies runs until 2031, and he will not come cheap as the club are under no pressure to sell him, and fellow Premier League club Manchester United could also come in to challenge Liverpool for his signature.

Manchester United have been searching for a replacement for Luke Shaw, and Hall is considered one of the top targets for the Red Devils, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to convince the England international to come to Old Trafford.

At Liverpool, manager Andoni Iraola prefers to use wing-backs over traditional left-backs, which could suit Hall’s playstyle as he is an attacking-minded full-back who can create chances as well as find the back of the net.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to lure Lewis Hall away from Newcastle United in January, or the 22-year-old left-back will stay put at St. James’ Park.

At the moment, Liverpool will be focusing on getting back to winning ways after the loss to Arsenal, as up next they have Fenerbahce in the Champions League.
