Marcelo’s comment on Instagram has lit up the transfer speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo

Things have not been quite the same for Real Madrid since Cristiano Ronaldo left for greener pastures at Juventus back in 2018. After the Portuguese contributed to Los Blancos winning three UEFA Champions League titles in a row, they have crashed out of the competition in the next two seasons on the bounce – bowing out to Ajax in the Round of 16 in 2019, and then following it up with a loss to Manchester City in the same stage of the tournament.

Since Real Madrid’s record goalscorer traded the Spanish capital for Turin, he has been sorely missed by the club’s faithful as well as his former teammates at the club – one Marcelo Vieira in particular.

Marcelo and Ronaldo struck up a spontaneous friendship in their tenure playing together for the record winners of the Champions League. The Portuguese-speaking duo shared a natural inclination towards each other on and off the pitch – while they combined brilliantly on the left flank for Real Madrid, they often backed it up with choreographed celebrations which spoke volumes about the two players’ bond.

Since Ronaldo left for the Turin outfit, not only has Marcelo lost a dear friend – but he has also lost his place in Zinedine Zidane’s team as a starting left-back. Despite his current predicament, the decorated fullback has hinted at reigniting his old friendship with Ronaldo with his most recent Instagram activity.

A post by football blog 433 on Instagram which featured the two friends celebrating in tandem after winning the Champions League title attracted a lot of attention from the Real Madrid faithful – after Marcelo made an interesting comment on it.

Marcelo’s comment on the post was simple, short and suspenseful – a “soon” which sent a section of the Spanish club’s followers into speculation and delirium as it concerns the return of one of their most celebrated players of all time.

While the optimistic lot dreamt of a Ronaldo return, some of the naysayers also pointed out that it could be Marcelo going over to Juventus instead – as the veteran fullback has fallen behind in the manager’s pecking order over the past season or so.

Whether the move happens or not, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo will always be known as one of the most lethal duos in football as seen in the comp of all their combinations below –
