Twitter compares wild Rodri celebration to iconic 2009 moment

2022 began in grand fashion, as an enthralling game of football between Manchester City and Arsenal finished in a 2-1 victory for the Cityzens.

While the scoreline might just flatter City’s performance, it does serve as a reminder of the reason for their dominance over English football.

Snatching a victory no matter the odds does come off as a mark of champions.

The manner in which they grabbed the winner was rather dramatic, keeping in line with the rest of the game.

Despite numerous efforts, City, who are usually adept at stretching defences, failed to breach Arsenal’s 10 men, who largely kept them at bay for the majority of the second half.

It took a moment of disarray for the Cityzens to finally find their winner.

Beginning with a floated delivery into the box from Kevin De Bruyne, the ball took multiple deflections before landing kindly into the path of Rodri.

The Spaniard stroked it home, and rapturous celebrations from the away end followed.

Even Rodri, who is usually a calm and reserved figure, got caught up in the thrill of it all.

The 25-year-old took off his shirt and ran towards the home support, clearly influenced by the adrenaline rush.

The Spaniard executed a clean knee slide before being mobbed by his teammates.

The celebration has drawn a lot of praise from fans on Twitter with some comparing the knee slide to the one performed by Emmanuel Adebayor against Arsenal back in 2009.
