With the Qatar World Cup 2022 less than two weeks away, Brazil was one of the first teams to confirm their 26-man squad for the tournament on Monday.
It is no doubt that their squad is absolutely stacked and is one of the favorites to lift the prestigious trophy this year.
Amongst all the Brazilian stars, fans were surprised not to find Liverpool’s forward, Roberto Firmino in the squad.
The Brazilian star has finally broken his silence on this matter and has written a heartfelt message in his latest Instagram post.
In his response, the forward was nothing short of humble and respectful. He starts off by extending his gratitude toward all the fans who sent him comforting messages during this tough time.
Adding further, he mentions that representing their nation at the world cup is a dream for any football player, including him. Moreover, he acknowledges that things didn’t go as he planned this time but he expressed his gratitude towards God Almighty for already allowing him to live his dream of being a top professional football player.
Most importantly, Firmino took this opportunity to congratulate and pay respect to his fellow countrymen who have been called up to play in the world cup.
He also admits that it was, is, and will always be an honour to represent his nation. Concluding his statement, he says that he remains confident that God has planned the best for him.
Many fans and former Liverpool teammates Dejan Lovren and Xherdan Shaqiri wrote comforting messages under his post and assured him that he will come out of this situation stronger than ever.
Firmino being left out of the Brazilian world cup squad has puzzled many fans and pundits alike. Despite Liverpool having a dreadful season, there is no denying that the forward has been instrumental in the club’s attacking front.
Out of 19 appearances in all competitions, the 31-year-old has contributed 9 goals and created a significant number of chances. But in a star-studded team like Brazil, some of the exceptional players were bound to miss out.
No matter the decision, Roberto Firmino’s response was humble and it also speaks to the type of player he is and the mentality he has.
