Manchester United wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho posted, edited, and then reposted a picture on his Instagram that has the fans appalled.
United dumped Fulham out of FA Cup with a scoreline of 3-1 after the Cottagers received 2 red cards in a minute. Entering the quarterfinals Cup tie, United had their fair share of injuries and suspensions, including the Argentine ace Alejandro Garnacho.
Garnacho, who has been a revelation for the Red Devils this season, sustained an ankle injury in United’s Premier League clash against Southampton after a challenge from defender Kyle-Walker Peters. It is feared that the knock might keep the teenager out of action long-term.
Still, the injury couldn’t keep Garnacho from showing his support for his club. The Argentine shared a snap of his TV screen while he was watching the FA Cup quarter-final victory from home, captioned – “Lets go guys!”.
Intriguingly enough, it turns out that he swiftly took the picture down and edited out a certain emerald color object before posting the same image again, in a matter of minutes.
However, Garnacho’s swiftness couldn’t elude the lynx-eyed fans, who managed to capture screenshots and recognize the green object. As it turns out, it was an “Elux Legend 3500” vape pen lying on the youngster’s sofa. These vapes are banned in the UK.
It isn’t confirmed who the vape belongs to, but the fans were quick to jump to the conclusion, labeling Garnacho a vaper. A source close to the Argentine’s family suggested that the vape belongs to Garnacho’s family member. One fan still tried to defend the teenager by questioning whether a professional footballer playing at such a high level would use a vape.
However, the majority of the reactions have been much more abrasive. Some fans question the professionalism of the youngster, while some believe he’s cutting his career short by vaping.
For a young talent, abusing any sort of substance seems far from ideal, especially when they consider Cristiano Ronaldo their idol. There are a plethora of examples of footballers whose careers got cut short due to substance abuse.
Even if the vape pen does not belong to Alejandro, having possession of a banned substance has brought negative attention to the teenager, an undesirable situation for both the forward and Man United.
Garnacho’s well-documented teeth were once again brought up in the conversation as fans assumed vaping to be the reason for his discolored teeth.
Quick science lesson though, vaping has got nothing to do with the yellowing of teeth, thus the argument is false.
Aware of Erik Ten Hag’s nature, it’s safe to assume that the gaffer must not have been pleased by the incident. Having already previously remarked on Garnacho’s discipline, fans are eager to see if the United boss will take disciplinary action against the Argentine forward.
Ten Hag notably did the same with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford earlier this season, so it wouldn’t surprise many if Garnacho falls victim to the Dutchman’s strict attitude.
