Kylian Mbappe Receives Boost From FIFA as Cold War Continues with Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Kylian Mbappe’s relations with PSG are simmering at a boiling point and he seems to have received major backing from FIFA amid some threats from the club. The relationship between the France captain and the Ligue 1 champions began to deteriorate in June when the winger sent a letter to the management, making it clear that he intends not to extend his current deal with them.

Initially, the contract Mbappe signed with PSG in 2022 was a two-year contract with the option to extend it for a third year until 2025. However, the French winger appears to have grown sick at the club and is ready to bail on them after the second year itself.

In fact, he’s more than happy to stick around with them for the upcoming season rather than push for a summer move to Real Madrid. PSG have been angered by this, as they find it to be a sign of betrayal. Their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already insisted that the club has no intentions of letting their prized asset leave on a free transfer next year.

Towards the start of June, Al-Khelaifi told the press: “We want him to stay but he can’t leave for free. There was a verbal agreement and he had discussed it in an interview.

“It’s for him to decide for himself next week, or at most in the next two weeks. And if he does not want to sign a new contract, the door is open. It’s like that for him and everyone else. Nobody is bigger than the club, no player, not even me. It’s very clear.”

PSG’s warnings to Kylian Mbappe

This was the ultimatum Mbappe received – that either to fall in line or be subject to a potential transfer. Real Madrid leapt up on this opportunity to rejoin the race to sign him, but the problematic factor is PSG’s valuation of him. The Ligue 1 club has no intentions of letting him leave for cheap and are valuing him to be sold at the record-breaking price of €250 million – an incredible fee. Madrid, on the other hand, are open to giving him a ‘Saudi-style’ offer that totals €550 million.

PSG are also trying to use ulterior methods to intimidate him and coming up with legal loopholes to make him cave to their demands. One of the threats that PSG reportedly made Mbappe is that they can sell him to any club they want even against his will.

They’ve also warned the France captain that they’ll remove him from training and not allow him to take part in their matches or daily activities. Mbappe, however, remained calm amid all this and has now received a major backing from FIFA.

FIFA warn PSG about trying to intimidate Mbappe

The Federation’s sources have notified Spanish outlet Marca that PSG cannot legally sell Mbappe against his wishes to a club he doesn’t want to join. The Frenchman can only compete a summer transfer as long as he fully agrees on personal terms with another club and agrees to joi them. Moreover, they can’t threaten to banish him from the squad either.

As per article 14 of FIFA’s rules and regulations, any gesture of force or pressure by a club towards a palyer can allow them to immediately terminate their contract by showing just cause. So if Mbappe really forces his hand in case PSG try to intimidate him with illegal actions, he can simply terminate his deal and then join Real Madrid or any other club on a free transfer in the summer.

It’s now being stated that PSG are now trying to find out legal solutions to that can be favourable towards all parties to end his exit saga. PSG president Al-Khelaifi reportedly met with the PSG squad recently and greeted everyone except Mbappe, with the cold war between the two contiuing.

PSG, as a result, need to be very careful in how they deal with him. They need to either fix their relationship with the winger or find a way to cordially work towards a summer transfer. Mbappe remains a PSG player for now, but it remains to be seen if the same stays in place on September 1.
