‘Hello Charlie! Here’s Captain Morgan Rogers reporting from my breakout season. Stay tuned. There’s more to come.’
‘Roger that!’
Yes, that’s Morgan Rogers indeed. The England international has really ARRIVED in the Premier League this season. He has started every single match in the campaign barring the GW20 encounter due to his suspension for seeing the fifth yellow card of Premier League 2024/25.
Don’t dare to write him off even after two consecutive blanks in GW22 and GW23. He is now in the middle of a plum fixture against Wolves away and yet to find the back of the net at the time of writing.
But Rogers has already shown his true potential under Unai Emery, often ending up overshadowing Villa’s undisputed king, Ollie Watkins too. At present, Morgan has 6 goals and 5 assists in the Fantasy Premier League 2024-25.
What is most startling about his performance is his xG-goal ratio. He successfully outperforms his expected goals tally by some distance — 6 goals from an xG of 3.6. The same applies to his underlying numbers for assists. Rogers has registered 5 assists compared to his xA(Expected Assist) of 3.
Just a couple of days back, Aston Villa managed to book a direct place in the last-sixteen of the UEFA Champions League thanks to a strong top-8 overall finish. In this fairytale run, Morgan Rogers emerged as the linchpin of Villa’s attacking third.
Aston Villa has been nothing less than phenomenal in their European adventure this year and evoked memories of their famous European Cup win from 1982, when they beat Bayern Munich 1-0 at home. Emery’s boys needed to win against Celtic in order to secure a top-8 finish and Morgan Rogers scored an all-important hat-trick to settle it for once and all.
With Jhon Duran departing in the middle of the season to cash-rich Saudi Pro League, Rogers will continue to combine with Watkins and run riot through opposition defences. He has a home match against Ipswich next and might have a double gameweek in GW25, adding to his widespread appeal in fantasy football.
For your information, except Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City, Rogers doesn’t have any red-labelled FDR fixture till the end of the Fantasy Premier League 2024-25, making him a much-sought-after long-term hold.
