FPL Transfer News: Marco Asensio Joining Aston Villa Gives Birth to an Exciting Fantasy Asset

Aston Villa Transfer News, FPL, Marco Asensio

Aston Villa is by far the most active PL team in the winter transfer window. And when I have a glance at their incomings and outgoings along with the money in the bank, I am reminded of the age-old meme: “This is business!”

Jhon Duran became a hot property in Europe thanks to his winner against Bayern and the solid performances that followed afterwards. They made enough money by selling the Colombian striker to accommodate a player like Marcus Rashford who was on a high wage at United.

On the other hand, Buendia joined Leverkusen on loan and even after signing Malen on loan from Dortmund, Villa were short of attacking options as Jhon Duran joined Al Nassr to make his sudden rise remain a flash in the pan in the history of PL. Now, Unai Emery’s team in their bid to make a deep run in the UCL, have further bolstered their squad with seasoned campaigner Marco Asensio who will be joining on loan from PSG.

The 29-year-old attacker has experienced a lot of European glory during his heydays at Real Madrid. Emery has been tracking him for long, with deep admiration for the Spanish forward. In his seven seasons at Bernabeu, Asensio touched the UEFA Champions League trophy thrice.

Therefore, Marco will certainly bring what it takes to win at grand stages when he comes out from the tunnel at Villa Park. However, his arrival also paves way for a fresh asset in Fantasy Premier League 2024-25. The Spaniard hasn’t lost his goal-scoring touch and has found the net twice in this season’s Ligue 1.

I think Asensio would be registered as a midfielder in the game and it would create a really high-ceiling for the ace attacking-midfielder. Though Rogers and Watkins currently dominate the Villa attacking third, Asensio comes with immense experience, sheer skill, and enough sample size to break into Villa’s upfront.

Also, with Villa still staying in the FA Cup and mid-week UCL duties to attend, there would be rotation. But I expect Emery to field the former Real Madrid fan favourite ahead of Rashford in the pecking order.

Asensio’s fantasy price has not been revealed yet. However, I don’t think it would be way too high. Rather, slightly upwards from the budget segment. If you have the adequate risk appetite you can feel free to jump on the fantasy transfer market as soon as he is listed.

With the kind run of fixtures Villa has right till the end of the season, you may end up doing some smart business with Asensio on board like Aston Villa did in the January transfer market.
