FPL Thought: Is Unai Emery Your Best Bet for the Assistant Manager Chip in Double Gameweek 25?

Assistant Manager Chip, Aston Villa, Double Gameweek 25, FPL, Unai Emery

Double gameweek 24 will be wrapped up within the next 30 hours and we are already assessing the options for gameweek 25, which is going to be another double gameweek. Wait, what? Hell yes!

Therefore, chips have become hot topics across fantasy communities and also the assets with an extra fixture — players from Liverpool and Aston Villa. The all-new assistant manager chip, which used to be dubbed as the ‘mystery chip’ by FPL until last December, went live and first came into play in the still ongoing double gameweek 24

Arne Slot was the most-used assistant manager in DGW24, followed by David Moyes and the latter currently leads the pack. If we look at the assistant manager prices, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery emerges as a more-than-decent manager with a moderate price-tag of £0.8m. Though Arne Slot would be the most-favoured assistant manager once again in DGW25, I would keep the Spaniard ahead of the Liverpool gaffer in terms of points prospects.

We know how this brand-new chip works, right? If you manage to punch above your weight, you get extra points. That’s why, the ones who have backed Moyes, will be rewarded with more points if Everton succeeds in snatching a point or three from their City rivals in what happens to be the last-ever Merseyside Derby at the monumental Goodison Park.

The same applies to Unai Emery, who will have his task cut out against the league-leaders in DGW25. Aston Villa is in fine form this season, having beaten Bayern Munich by 1-0 in the UCL group stage and reached the last-16 directly.  They were boosted in January with the arrivals of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford.

Ezri Konsa has been a ‘Chinese Wall’ at the heart of the defence and it won’t be easy for Slot’s men to edge past Morgan Rogers and co. at Villa Park. Emery will also have a plum fixture against McKenna’s struggling Ipswich Town at home, which further amplifies his fantasy appeal.

If you are not playing the triple captain chip and planning to go ahead with the assistant manager chip instead, I would suggest you to have your money on the manager with the highest number of Europa League titles — Unai Emery. He has a rare trait to create upsets and you could disrupt your mini-leagues in FPL if the former Villarreal coach manages to pull off another in double gameweek 25.
