Tottenham Hotspur fans were sent into a frenzy when Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, and Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, paid unexpected tributes to Spurs via social media.
17-year-old Yamal, with 29.5 million TikTok followers, reposted a post-match edit of Tottenham’s Europa League quarterfinal triumph against Eintracht Frankfurt.

20-year-old Mainoo, boasting 3.3 million Instagram followers, shared a nostalgic childhood photo wearing a 1996 Tottenham PONY Away kit to celebrate his birthday. He captioned it “20! Blessed”.

These moves from Euro 2024’s Kopa Trophy contenders ignited viral buzz, with Spurs’ TikTok-savvy fanbase jokingly clamoring for the duo’s signatures.
Yamal, a La Masia star, has never confirmed supporting Tottenham. Though an old photo of him meeting Lionel Messi in a Tottenham tracksuit fuels speculation of early Spurs fandom.

Mainoo, a United academy product, hasn’t claimed Spurs allegiance either, though his post suggests childhood affection. Neither has addressed their tributes, leaving fans to dream.
While the transfer talk is tongue-in-cheek, Spurs could be an intriguing fit for both. Tottenham’s youthful squad, featuring 21-year-old Destiny Udogie, 19-year-old Archie Gray, and 20-year-old Lucas Bergvall, thrives under Ange Postecoglou’s dynamic system, which suits Yamal’s explosive wing play and Mainoo’s composed midfield craft.
Yamal could form a devastating attacking trio with Dejan Kulusevski, while Mainoo’s poise would complement Yves Bissouma’s energy. Though, this is wishful thinking at best for Spurs at the moment.
Looking ahead, Tottenham aim to leverage their young core for a Europa League push as they take on Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in the semi final first leg on 2nd May. While signing Yamal and Mainoo remains a pipe dream, their tributes have energized Spurs’ fanbase, fueling optimism for a bright future.
