Fans Stunned After Learning Erling Haaland’s Offside Record Since Joining City

Erling Haaland, Manchester City

Erling Haaland has been a talisman for both club and country. He has been a serious goal machine, whether it be for Manchester City or his National side, Norway. He has scored a total of 98 goals in 107 appearances so far in the Premier League for Manchester City and has 51 goals for Norway so far making him his country’s leading goal-scorer.

When it comes to goal scoring, the Norwegian Viking is genuinely a machine who just scores goals for fun. Many times, there is just an air of inevitability that he is going to score.

At just 25 years of age, he is slowly getting compared to the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, given the sheer magnitude of the number of goals scored for club and country at such a young age. If he stays fit for most of his career, Haaland can break a few goal-scoring records realistically.

However, apart from his form in scoring goals and breaking records, there is another interesting record that Haaland already has to his name.

According to Manchester Evening News (MEN), Erling Haaland has been flagged offside only 18 times in 107 Premier League matches, and is yet to be caught offside at all this season.

MEN further reported that when Haaland was asked his opinion about his interesting record, he replied, “It’s not the first season when I was barely offside,” said Haaland.

“I think it started when I was 13 years old. I try to stay onside. When I came to City, I have been offside 18 times, 18 times in three and half years is okay.  It’s something in my game: I hate to be offside. If you’re offside with VAR you have no chance. I think VAR has helped me even more because you get the decision – it’s as simple as that. If you’re barely offside and there is an offside situation, it’s likely that I won’t be offside. It’s something I’ve been working on since I was 13 at Bryne and I’m still playing in the same kind of way… just now I’m quicker, better and faster.”

Haaland was further questioned regarding his 98-goal tally for City in the league and if he will break Shearer’s league record of 260 goals

He said, “I know this record, I don’t really know any records, but this one I know. That’s his Premier League record, but again, that’s not something I can… I can’t think about records I can break. That’s the last thing I think of. I try to help the team win football games. That’s my job and that’s my main focus. I know it’s boring, I know you want me to say the completely opposite, but it’s not how it is.”

Fans have been astonished by Haaland’s unique offside record on social media.

Erling Haaland will face his former side, Borussia Dortmund, in Manchester City’s next game in the Champions League, where he would like to keep his records intact.
