Piero Hincapie joining Arsenal back in September opened doors that Bayer Leverkusen simply could not.
A huge part of the 23/24 Bundesliga winning squad, Arsenal signed the Ecuadorian on loan with an option to buy for around 45 million pounds.
Since then, the 24 YO defender has gone on to become a crucial cog of Arsenal’s ongoing title charge.
Hincapie played left-back as Arsenal went to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and won 4-1 in the North London Derby.
He won seven tackles, more than anyone else on the pitch, which got him a direct entry to Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week.
What makes Hincapie special is that he can genuinely play multiple positions at a high level.
He is physically strong, reads the game well, and wins his aerial duels consistently. Mikel Arteta called him a warrior, and the numbers back that up every week.
After the NLD win, Hincapie posted an in-game photo with the quintessential ‘London is Red’ caption on Instagram.
He soundtracked the post with “Le Djoliba” by Westside Gunn, a deep cut from the rapper’s 2020 album Pray for Paris.
It is an irregular, cinematic, triumphant sounding track, and honestly it was the perfect choice for a derby win.
Hincapie seems to be a total raphead as he regularly features tracks from DMX, Gunna, Future and more in his IG posts.
But we were not prepared for what happened next as Westside Gunn commented on his NLD post.
The American rapper who goes by FLYGOD (name of his 2016 debut album) wrote “sounds so glorious”.
For those who do not know him, Westside Gunn is one of the most respected underground rappers alive.
He co-founded Griselda Records in Buffalo, New York, alongside Conway the Machine and Benny the Butcher.
He is a genuine artist with a massive cult following across music, fashion, and art.

Now Westside Gunn is commenting on Arsenal players’ posts.
Maybe the Griselda boss is the next one to get the Arsenal bug.
