Troubled Chelsea Star Enzo Fernandez Honored By McDonald’s Back In Argentina

Argentina National Football Team, Chelsea, Enzo Fernandez

A lot of things seem to be going wrong for Enzo Fernández at the moment.

Trouble began brewing when the Chelsea midfielder seemed to have implied a desire to leave the Blues for Real Madrid in an interview during the international break.

The resultant backlash included a two-game ban imposed on the World Cup winner by the Chelsea leadership, including manager Liam Rosenior.

To make matters worse, once Fernández did return to action against Manchester United, he was snubbed for the captain’s armband too.

That honour was instead given to Moisés Caicedo, with the Ecuadorian leading his side in a 1-0 loss to the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge.

Fernández was expected to lead the Blues with captain Reece James out injured, but with recent incidents still fresh in the memory, it looked like the Chelsea hierarchy decided to go with Caicedo instead.

While turbulence at Stamford Bridge may be dimming Enzo’s star in West London, it seems like the midfielder has redemption on the horizon, especially with the World Cup fast approaching.

For the Argentina national football team, Fernández remains a vital piece of the puzzle.

Since his breakout performances in the last World Cup (where he won the FIFA Young Player Award), he has evolved into one of the team’s most reliable midfield engines— with his ability to link up play and dictate tempo allowing La Albiceleste’s forward line to flourish.

Beyond the WC, Fernández also helped the Argentinians clinch the 2024 Copa América, a tournament in which he provided two assists and played all but one of their matches.

His growing importance is also being reflected off the pitch.

Riding the wave of football fever, McDonald’s Argentina has spotlighted Fernández in a new campaign celebrating the nation’s biggest stars ahead of the tournament.

At the heart of it is his very own signature burger: the ‘McFernández.

The campaign doesn’t stop there either, with teammates Alexis Mac Allister and Julián Álvarez also getting their own custom meals – the ‘McAllister’ and ‘McAlvarez’ respectively.

The three Argentinians join an envious list of celebrities with their own McDonald’s meals including Travis Scott, J Balvin, and BTS.

The ad campaign makes one thing very clear that while things may be turbulent at Chelsea right now, Enzo Fernandez remains popular as ever back in Argentina.
