Michael Olise has always been a rising star, from Reading FC, to Crystal Palace, to Bayern Munich.
The Frenchman earned his big move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024. Olise has reached new heights since arriving at the German club, with the 24-year-old scoring 21 goals, while assisting 30 times for Bayern so far this season.
The headlines have not just been about Olise’s standout performances. Olise has always been a popular figure amongst the fans, with many talking about his personality and the apparent “nonchalant” vibe he has created around himself, leading to headlines beyond the pitch.
This dates back to his Reading days, where the young player’s chats had reportedly been leaked. The screenshots, which have circulated online for years and are still often reposted by football pages, allegedly showed Olise backing himself heavily and speaking like a player who already believed he was above his level at the time.

These became a wider part of him, with fans thinking of him as a quiet but confident player, also finding him quite humorous.
This persona created around him has followed him through his career, with some fans now criticising his behaviour. Olise does not say a lot, even during interviews, but people still read plenty into him. Some fans believe Olise is a more reserved person, an introvert, while others believe that he is putting up an act.
This debate followed Bayern’s title-winning celebrations. While others celebrated, Olise looked typically reserved and shy. Fans also noticed that Olise was not wearing the title celebration shirt.

This does not end with his ‘reserved’ or ‘nonchalant’ persona; it extends into his fashion and style.
Since his Crystal Palace days, fans have noticed that Olise always wears shoes that match his jersey. Whether it was the Crystal Palace blue and white third kit with the multicoloured blue and white Nike Hypervenom Phantom III, or the red Hypervenoms to match Bayern’s red; Olise has spent his career without a boots sponsor, going out of his way to match his boots with his jersey.
At the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, however, the talk was not about his boots. Olise showed up in a hood-up look, walking into a high-pressure stage in what looked like an attempt to either shut out the noise or make a loud statement.
He wore a balaclava pulled up high to his nose and his beanie hat pulled down, covering his whole face and giving the whole look a closed-off feel.
He wore it with a dark Bayern tracksuit, paired with mustard shoes, and a sling bag, keeping the fit simple rather than flashy.

This followed exactly what the fans had started to expect from Olise, quiet yet bold.
While some fans appreciated this look, some criticised him in relation to his performance where he was completely nullified by Nuno Mendes and co.

With a 1-1 draw to PSG at the Allianz Arena; Bayern were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after losing 6-5 on aggregate.
Fans took to social media to ‘troll’ Michael Olise, especially in relation to his attire.

One subdued performance and one low-key arrival were quickly stretched into comments about who he is, not just how he played. This reaction also pointed to a wider problem in football culture, where fans can quickly turn a player’s off night into content, trolling them using jokes about their personality and performance to chase likes and replies
Olise was kept silent on the pitch, but his actions off the pitch still managed to put him in the headlines once again.
Following the same trajectory throughout his career, whether silent or loud, Olise is always a part of the conversation.
