Piero Hincapie endured one of the more unfortunate moments of Arsenal’s Premier League meeting with Burnley after suffering an accidental wardrobe malfunction during the second half at the Emirates Stadium.
Since his move to the Emirates from Bayer Leverkusen, the Ecuadorian defender has been working to establish himself in Mikel Arteta’s squad, bringing versatility, athleticism and composure to a back line already packed with quality.
Against Burnley, he was introduced to help Arsenal manage the game and maintain control during the closing stages.
The match itself was an important one for Arsenal, who were looking to maintain control of their title charge and avoid any slip-up against Burnley.
The Gunners dominated large spells of the contest, moving the ball with patience while trying to break down a Burnley side that spent long periods defending deep.
Kai Havertz eventually made the difference with a decisive header, giving Arsenal the advantage and allowing Arteta’s side to focus on seeing out the result.
However, Hincapie’s cameo took an unexpected turn in the 77th minute as he chased a loose ball near the touchline with Burnley defender Axel Tuanzebe, with both players trying to use their bodies to gain position.
Hincapie appeared to get his body between Tuanzebe and the ball, but as the challenge continued, he lost his footing and slid across the turf.
Tuanzebe tried to step around him, but his boot accidentally caught the Arsenal defender’s shorts, pulling them down.
For a brief moment, Hincapie was left bare-bottomed, exposed from behind in front of the Emirates crowd and the live television cameras.

The Arsenal defender quickly realised what had happened, turned over and pulled his shorts back into place before getting to his feet and continuing the match.
Tuanzebe did not appear to do anything deliberately, with the incident coming from an awkward tangle of legs as both players chased the same ball.
Fans and players found the funny side to this, with multiple Arsenal players pictured laughing with Hincapie about the situation.

Sky Sports did not help Hincapie’s situation either. A slow-motion replay was shown on live television of the tackle and the incident that followed after.

To his credit, Hincapie handled it professionally. Many players might have been visibly rattled by such an embarrassing mishap, especially under the glare of Premier League cameras. Instead, he simply fixed the issue, got back to his feet and carried on with his role, helping Arsenal see the 1-0 lead out to the end.
For Arsenal, the result mattered far more than the awkward moment. The win kept their momentum going and gave Arteta another reminder of the depth available in his squad, with players like Hincapie ready to contribute when called upon.
For Hincapie, it was an uncomfortable but harmless incident in a season that remains more important for his development, adaptation and growing role within the team.
