Months after breaking a two decades-plus drought to lift the Premier League, Arsenal are looking to strengthen the side even further with the blockbuster signing of Vinicius Junior.
The Brazilian is set to run out of contract with Los Blancos at the end of the upcoming season, which has piqued interest in a lot of boardrooms across Europe.
While the transfer market is buzzing with updates about these developing situations, one man who has become synonymous with such reports has remained uncharacteristically quiet.
Fabrizio Romano so far has had little to say about the potential move, which in itself has become a talking point.

Romano had made a name for himself for doggedly following up on all major transfers in European football, incessantly tweeting about any and every active scenario.
Once the Italian gets hold of a link, he makes sure to keep it at the forefront of his audience’s mind by espousing every little development possible until he declares the transfer complete with his iconic ‘here we go’ tweet.
The amassing of a cult following because of such antics has made Romano the go-to source for all major transfer updates.
Given such a reputation, one would have expected Fabrizio to ferociously hunt down the Vinicius rumours and explore his links to Arsenal.
Afterall, reports suggest the transfer amount for Vinicius is expected to be well over a 125 million pounds, making it the biggest of the summer by a comfortable margin.
The Brazilian already has two Champions Leagues to his name and finished runner-up for the Ballon D’Or in 2024 to cement himself as one of his generation’s finest.
The transfer mogul’s radio silence on the matter has made fans speculate whether Romano has been cutoff by his sources at Arsenal.
The truth seems to be much stranger though, given Romano continues to give updates on other players the club is linked with. For instance, he has continued to follow the Gunners’ pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
The situation does not help Romano’s building rivalry against The Athletic’s David Ornstein for the throne of transfer guru.
Earlier in the summer, Romano already took a massive blow when he proposed then-Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers and Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola as Arsenal’s potential targets with no hints of Vinicius.
As it turns out, he got it emphatically wrong.
Since then, Rogers has joined Arsenal’s arch-rivals Chelsea for a record British fee. Barcola, meanwhile, seems to be headed for the red half of Merseyside with Liverpool.

As a result, Ornstein seems to now have completely taken over the story. He broke a major update last week confirming no club-to-club talks have taken place yet, but Arsenal are vested in the idea and it has approval at all levels of the club.
Romano then received a double whammy when even Hand of Arsenal provided a major update on the situation. They confirmed that the Londoners have already finalized personal terms with the Brazilian, and are on track to table a gargantuan offer to Madrid.
Yet, it still was not enough to provoke a response from Romano. In fact, the only time Romano has recently spoken of the Vinicius situation was in uncharacteristic surroundings.
The Italian was a special guest on renowned comedian and former late night host Trevor Noah’s live watch party on YouTube for the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final between Spain and Belgium.
Romano at one point asked point-blank during the game whether there are any possibilities of Vinicius arriving in North London. The veteran simply said an overtly confident blanket “no” to end the conversation, shutting out any possibilities of the transfer taking place.

Perhaps Romano is waiting for Vinicius to get back to contract talks before breaking updates, or maybe he believes it is a smoke without fire. The truth will become evident soon enough, with the transfer window set to close at the end of August.
