Liverpool signed Jacquet from French outfit Stade Rennais in the previous summer transfer window on a five-year deal.
The Reds saw the departure of Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid and were looking to find the right replacement to strengthen their defence.
This term, Jacquet has made five Premier League appearances and formed a solid partnership with club captain Virgil van Dijk.
With Jacquet and Van Dijk at the heart of the defence, the Merseyside club have only conceded three goals in five Premier League matches, becoming one of the strongest defensive units.
The 21-year-old was called up to the France national team by manager Zinedine Zidane to represent his country during their Nations League fixtures.
France are in a tough Nations League group, which contains the likes of Italy, Belgium, and Turkiye.
Les Bleus currently sit at the top of the group with ten points, zero defeats, and in their last match trashed Belgium 4-1.
During his first senior call-up to the France national team, Jeremy Jacquet played 180 minutes in matches against Belgium and Italy.
However, he sustained an injury to his hamstring and was left out of the last match against Belgium, and manager Zidane took the decision as a precaution for load management.
Jacquet has returned to Liverpool to undergo formal assessment, and he will undergo scans at the AXA Training Centre.
The injury is believed to be minor, but it has cast real doubt on his availability for the Manchester City game on Sunday.
Liverpool manager Iraola has not commented on Jacquet’s injury, but it believed that he has suffered an hamstring injury while on international duty with France.
France national team manager Zidane explained Jacquet’s injury, saying: ‘He had to be careful’ and ‘the Liverpool defender is ‘slightly injured’
In the event that Jacquet is unavailable, Liverpool will need to pick either Joe Gomez or Ronald Araujo, who is on loan from Barcelona.
The Uruguayan international arrived from Barcelona on a season-long loan deal, and his move could become permanent as Liverpool hold an option to buy clause.
It remains to be seen whether Jacquet will recover from the minor hamstring injury and line up alongside Van Dijk to face Manchester City on Sunday.
As per the Liverpool Echo, Jacquet could return to the team in time to face Manchester City on Sunday, and as the injury is belived to be a minor setback, it could be possible.
However, according to Sports Illustrated, as Jacquet has not gone through the entire medical procedure, it is difficult to put a timeline on his return, and in cases of a hamstring injury, it could be three days or three months.
For now, Jacquet is at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre, and the club are working on finding a solution to help him recover from his hamstring injury as quickly as possible.
Last term, while playing for Stade Rennais, Jacquet missed 113 days, due to a shoulder injury, and missed several crucial games, though he return to the team and put in strong displays through out the course of the season.
In past seasons, the French defender mainly suffered calf injuries and shoulder injuries, but all these injury setbacks were short, and he only missed a handful of games.
Liverpool will be carefully assessing all the possible outcomes, as they would not want him to hurry back to the field and then get injured again and be sidelined for a long period of time.
