Chelsea face 76M pound Rayan Cherki gamble and a Quansah wait until 2027

Chelsea were in full-throttle mode in the summer transfer window a few months back. Under new head coach Xabi Alonso, the Blues shifted their roster aggressively, spending more than 300M Euros. Despite high-profile signings like Morgan Rogers, the results haven’t gone Chelsea’s way, though, as they stand 10th in the Premier League after five matches.

Quite naturally, due to this slow start to the season, Chelsea seems to be making some steady moves in the transfer market as new gossip around the club surfaces in the last few days. According to Transfer News Live on X and Fichajes, the West London club has showcased their interest in Manchester City player Rayan Cherki. The Blues had also expressed their interest in the Frenchman during his time at Lyon.

Fast forward to these days, Cherki has become a crucial player in the attacking front for City. Valued at 76M Pounds, Cherki recently had an impressive stint with his national team during the international break and has scored 4 goals and dished out 2 assists in 8 games for City. However, the issues with Manchester City are the financial sanctions that might come their way courtesy of the breaches proven against them by the Premier League.

In that situation, City might be forced to sell the 23-year-old, allowing Chelsea to take advantage. But in that case, Chelsea can rest assured that they won’t be the only club bidding for Cherki in the upcoming few months. While Cherki’s creativity and flair in the midfield and the wings would be a silver lining for Alonso and co, their immediate concern is their defence.

Under Alonso, Chelsea has had a poor defensive start to the season, allowing 12 goals in 5 games. In this precarious situation, social media rumours suggest that the West London club can potentially target Bayer Leverkusen CB Jarell Quansah. According to Sky reporter Florian Pettenbach, Quansah is expected to leave Leverkusen in 2027, which has ignited interest among clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal.

Touted as one of the most promising young defenders of his generation, Quansah can be the missing puzzle of Alonso’s defence, where he can pair up with defenders like Wesley Fofana. Despite his limited exposure, Quansah’s elite ball-playing, along with physical and aerial dominance, is something that very few young defenders can match.

Besides these top names, Chelsea are also rumoured to be interested in young talents like 16-year-old Eduardo Conceicao from Palmeiras and 18-year-old left-back Peyton Miller. As per TeamTalk’s Graeme Bailey, Chelsea are taking keen interest in Miller, who recently earned his first cap for the national team. A relentless young talent with elite experience in covering space and attacking, Miller will be a valuable addition to Stamford Bridge but will also face strong competition from teams like Liverpool and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also looking to invest in building a strong forward for the future, and the team’s interest in Conceicao perfectly signals that in that regard. Having risen through the Palmeiras U17 and U20 levels, Conceicao has already made a name for himself with his skills. Clubs like FC Barcelona and Manchester City are also keeping a close tab on the player, whom The Daily Mail cited as the “hottest prospect in the world.”

Besides, the Blues are also reported to be continuing their approach towards Alex Scott. Scott, who has established himself as a formidable young midfielder, was also approached by Chelsea during the summer window. The Blues offered a 64M pounds deal, but Bournemouth reportedly rejected it. According to reports from LiveScore, the West London club can largely offer a revised and better deal in the upcoming winter transfer window or even in the summer next year.

Scott addition will be kind of a valuable addition after Enzo Fernandez departed from the club. However, all these reports are still up in the air for Chelsea FC, and we can only wait till January to confirm player movements around Stamford Bridge.
