Liverpool are going through a transition period, and Andoni Iraola is tasked with leading the charge after taking over from Dutch manager Arne Slot.
The Reds saw the departures of Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate, who were key players in the first team.
During the summer, the Merseyside club has brought in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, Victor Munoz from Osasuna, and Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais to bolster their squad.
However, the club have not made any real additions to the midfield in the previous summer transfer window.
And it could change in the upcoming winter transfer window or next season during the summer transfer window.
According to journalist Paul Grost, Liverpool are keen on signing 17-year-old wonderkid Gilberto Mora, who currently plays for Mexican outfit Club Tijuana.
Liverpool are expected to have made an offer in the region of £37.6M to Club Tijuana to sign Gilberto Mora, according to journalist David Faitelson.
But Mora’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has refused to make any comments about the future of her client and the recent interest from Liverpool.
Pimenta was quoted by Liverpool Zone: “Please understand that I don’t comment on transfer rumours. I won’t say anything at all about the transfer of any player. Thank you very much for your understanding.”
Mora, who is just 17, impressed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Mexico, making four appearances and helping them reach the Round of 16.
The Mexican international plays as an attacking midfielder, and he is strong on the ball, agile, and able to turn defence into attack at high speed.
Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen just last summer to play as an attacking midfielder, and they paid around £116M.
However, Wirtz is yet to justify his price tag at Anfield, as he has only contributed to 14 goals in 51 matches at the club in all competitions so far.
It could provide much-needed competition to Wirtz, and as Mora can also play as a centre midfielder, he could also act as a backup to Alexis Mac Allister.
Iraola’s preferred formation is 4-2-3-1, and there is space for at least five midfielders in the team, which means that he would not only want quality first-team players but also need reliable players to come off the bench and make an impact.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool are able to price away Mora from his boyhood club, as he still has three years remaining on his current deal with Tijuana.
