28-year-old English striker Dominic Calvert-Levin had everything he needed to become one of the best strikers in English and Premier League history, but injuries severely hampered his career and prevented him from reaching his full prime. There was even a period between 2019 and 2021 when he was considered one of the best strikers in the Premier League, having one of the best goal averages in the league. This was truly astonishing, and many thought DCL had finally made it, but that wasn’t the case. Still, we got a glimpse of what DCL could have been at his peak, and it was astonishing.
Even so, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was always referred to as one of the best players at Everton FC, the team he played for and was the main attacking force from 2016 to 2025. In June 2025, he made the decision to finally say goodbye to Everton FC, a decision which, according to him, was very difficult since he had been with the team for almost 10 years, but he knew that his time had come.
Leeds United decided to sign Calvert-Lewin in order to make him their main striker alongside Noah Okafor, but his debut wasn’t as good as many expected and for this reason they created a meme of him. In his debut for Leeds United, DCL missed a penalty and 3 sitters, and for this reason, this meme was created.

For those unfamiliar with the expression, a “sitter” refers to an extremely easy goal-scoring opportunity that’s harder to miss than to score. Well, DCL missed three of these in his EFL Cup debut against Sheffield Wednesday. There were even failed compilations of Calvert-Lewin’s match, highlighting his poor performance.
The photo is obviously playing with the term “Miss Universe”, the famous beauty contest, hence why he is seen wearing a dress.

➡️ 37 Minutes played.
➡️ 3 Big chances missed.
➡️ 1 Penalty Missed in the Shootout.
➡️ Leeds knocked out of the cup.

And yes, his debut was horrible. There are even websites that talk about it and say that this match was one of the worst debuts in the history of football, not just in Britain, but in world football.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin's Leeds Bow Was One Of The Worst Debuts Of All-Time

Things couldn't have gone much worse for him 😬https://t.co/QzhUIzCPDE
There are others who choose to simply refer to this as the worst debut in history, such as The Sun Football. This is probably quite harsh and doesn’t do Calvert-Lewin any justice. There is also the fact that some associate the “Mr. Sitter” meme to the time that he dressed with a skirt during his heyday with Everton, although that is mere speculation.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffers 'worst debut of all time' after missing THREE injury-time sitters AND a penalty for Leeds

Having a bad game is always unpleasant, but having a disastrous performance on your debut is horrendous, and we wouldn’t wish that on anyone. We truly hope Dominic Calvert-Lewin can improve throughout the season and become the striker Leeds United hopes he will be. There are still many hoping that DCL can be the forward that injuries prevented him from being, there is still time, to be honest.
