From Maresca’s Rage to McTominay’s Aura: Here Are Football’s Rawest Moments This Week

Tough Love on the Touchline: Maresca’s Fiery Moment with Delap

Liam Delap returned to full team training from his injury last week. While he missed the game against Sunderland on Saturday, he was subsequently named in the squad for the Carabao Cup round four tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molinuex. He came on in the 61st minute, replacing the eighteen year old Brazilian wonderkid, Estevao Willian.

But within nineteen minutes after being substituted in the game after being out for two months, he was given a yellow card for hauling down Yerson Mosquera, the Wolves centre back. Once again, this turned into a catastrophe for Liam Delap after he was given the second yellow card and sent off for using his elbow to punch Emanuel Agabadou in the face.

Maresca was also spotted seething with Delap as he was sent off and was being headed down the tunnel and understandably so. Any manager would be unhappy when such an approach is attempted to win a bout while already being carded in the first place. Chelsea have now already accumulated 6 red cards in their last 9 games in all competitions this season, 3 in the Premier League alone and it is only October. For context, Chelsea had only accumulated 4 red cards in the whole of the 2024/25 season.

Head Down, Hands Up: Robertson’s Apology to the Anfield Faithful

Liverpool were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after an embarrassing 0-3 defeat against Crystal Palace at Anfield earlier this week. This is already a second defeat against Crystal Palace for the Carabao Cup runners-up and the defending Premier League champions this season.

Last month, Crystal Palace became the first team to end Liverpool’s seven game unbeaten run in all competitions this season through former Gunner, Eddie Nketiah’s injury time winner at Selhurst Park who sealed the victory and all 3 points for the Eagles. Little did Liverpool know, that, that defeat would see them go on a losing streak in the Premier League.

Liverpool have now lost their all of their last 4 Premier League games and have also lost 6 of their last 7 games in all competitions this season. The last time when Liverpool lost 4 Premier League games in a row was back in February 2021 and the last time when they lost 4 consecutive games was in November 2014 under their then head coach, Brendan Rodgers.

It is a heart-wrenching time for the club and their fans currently but even despite all of this mess, Andrew Robertson is winning hearts of the Liverpool fans. After the defeat against Crystal Palace during the week, Andrew Robertson was seen apologising to the Anfield crowd for the performance which the team put up. This depicts that he is a true leader and wants to take accountability when things are not going as expected. Apologising to the supporters shows the acknowledgement that the supporters do not come to watch their team play in such a derogatory manner and they (players) must do better.

Scott Mc’Don’imay:

Scott McTominay encountered a career-defining transition during the 2024-2025 campaign with his move from Manchester United to Napoli. Under Antonio Conte, the Scottish international was tactically revamped, transitioning from a holding role to become a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder with a formidable attacking purpose.

This shift saw him become Napoli’s most important player, contributing 12 goals in Serie A and playing a significant role in earning the league title. His remarkable output and consistent intensity earned him the prestigious title of Serie A Best Overall Player, cementing his status as a European standout and attracting interest from clubs across the continent.

He still is continuing to perform in the 2025/26 season so far. He has already scored 2 goals and provided 1 assist in 8 Serie A appearances for the Naples and has 4 goals in 11 games in all competitions. Napoli currently sit at the top of the Serie A table level on points (21) with Roma, who sit 2nd.

However, to our astonishment, he also works a second job. Or maybe not?— This image of him was clicked prior to the game where Napoli were about to face Lecce in the Serie A. He was portrayed sipping from a cup supposedly of the brand, Toral. McTominay’s “aura farming” is unmatched in this image. His candid, stoic pose and monochrome outfit are seen as effortless coolness and charisma.

Hürzeler vs Dowman: Eyes That Speak

In June 2024, Fabian Hurzeler took over as head coach of Brighton & Hove Albion, succeeding Roberto De Zerbi. At the age of 31, he became the Premier League’s youngest ever permanent manager. Hurzeler signed from FC St. Pauli, where he led them to promotion as German second-tier champions, demonstrating a playing style that suited Brighton’s ambitious future plans.

On the other hand, Max Dowman, Arsenal’s future prodigy, recently made history by becoming the club’s youngest-ever starter at 15 years and 302 days old. This record-breaking start occurred in a Carabao Cup match against Brighton. The English midfielder joined Arsenal’s academy at the age of five. He is highly-rated and also holds the record for being the youngest goalscorer for the England U19s.

This image, which highlights the “young guns” motif while spanning a generation, shows them locking eyes at each other intimidatingly during Arsenal’s 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Brighton on Wednesday.
