For the larger part of his career, Ederson spent his prime years at Manchester City collecting Premier League medals for fun.
He also won a historic treble in 2023, including the first Champions League title in the club history.
But since his move to Fenerbahce in 2025 after nine seasons at the Etihad, Ederson still shows his class week in, week out, winning over the entire Turkish club’s fanbase with his playing style.
Ederson is known for his sweeper keeping ability, relieving the pressure on the defence during counter attacks and contributing to build up play from the back with exceptional composure. It was this quality that made him an undisputed starter in Pep Guardiola’s reign in Man City.
As a matter of fact, Ederson had seven assists for Manchester city which is a remarkable achievement being a goalkeeper.
However a dip in form last season and as a result of Man City’s first finish outside the top two since 2017, Ederson completed his transfer to the Turkish giants Fenerbahce for a fee of 14 million Euros. Ederson said he wanted to leave City as he was not enjoying his football.
“The season before this one I had tried to leave [City], but it didn’t work out, That affected my performance; I had five injuries, I wasn’t at my highest level. [Leaving City] was a decision I made with my family, I spoke with the club.
There’s no point in being at a giant winning club if you’re not happy. I needed this change. With this change, I’m breathing football again and feeling the atmosphere of the games in Turkey, which is crazy.“
Ever since he arrived in the Superlig, Ederson has showed some levels to the players. His pinpoint passes from the back have shown new ways for the fellow goalkeepers on how to contribute as the 11th man in the attack.
He is gaining “greatest goalkeeper” status in what has just been a glimpse of him in the league.
With only 10 appearances, Ederson has become a fan favourite helping Fenerbahce stay unbeaten in the league and only 3 points behind the other giant, Galatasaray.
