Did Kylian Mbappe Just Pick France’s World Cup Attack? Insta Collab Triggers Backlash

On Monday, Kylian Mbappe posted what seemed like an innocent Instagram collaboration. The Real Madrid superstar shared a celebratory post featuring himself alongside Marcus Thuram and Ousmane Dembele.

All 3 players had scored on the weekend with Mbappe on target in the stoppage time against Valencia, Thuram helping Inter win big against Sassuolo and Dembele everpresent in PSG’s rout of rivals Marseille.

The social media collab between the trio consisted of one photo with all 3 players in dynamic action shots wearing club kits, three rock emojis and what should have been harmless fun among friends.

Instead, football fans erupted with one unified reaction: “The dictator has spoken.”

For many, this was Mbappe declaring France’s attacking lineup for the 2026 World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada.

Mbappe’s season at Real Madrid has been exceptional, Thuram has delivered consistently for Inter, and Dembele has picked up form after a slow start at PSG this season.

But the Les Bleus pack a formidable attacking options whose goalscoring prowess were on full display during the European Qualifications.

Perhaps the most damning result of this social media stunt could be the discontent in the growing list of talented French forwards.

Fans fear the following players will be marginalized: Michael Olise, Rayan Cherki, Hugo Ekitike, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola.

Manager Didier Deschamps used every option in his arsenal wisely during the qualifiers but it seems Mbappe is now putting his foot down as to what he thinks should be the attacking trio come the 17th of June.
