Manchester United’s trip to the Stadium of Light was a flat, rain-hit 0-0 draw against Sunderland, and for long spells it looked like another game that summed up United’s season.
Technically underwhelming, short on rhythm, and more stressful than it needed to be.
The frustration was not just about the scoreline. United struggled badly in attack and did not register a shot on target until stoppage time, with their first effort on target arriving in the 93rd minute.
Sunderland, meanwhile, had some of the clearer openings and even struck the post through Lutsharel Geertruida.
The home side looked sharper in spells, while United were held together by goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who made important saves to keep the game goalless.
Michael Carrick rotated his side, making several changes, and the result exposed concerns about United’s squad depth.
With key players missing, the team looked disjointed, especially in midfield and attack. Mason Mount was used in a deeper role, Joshua Zirkzee struggled to make an impact up front, and United’s late pressure never really turned into a convincing push for a winner.
Regardless of the disappointing performance, the point from the draw was enough to confirm their place in next season’s Champions League.
This was a big moment for United, as they had not participated in the competition since 23/24, where they were eliminated in the group stages.
In the same match, Manchester United also debuted their extraordinary ‘Chinese New Year’ themed anthem jacket that made heads turn when the players walked out wearing it before kickoff.

The grey piece features a structured stand-up collar, a soft suede-like finish, and horizontal knot-style fastenings across the chest, giving it a heritage feel rather than a standard sportswear appearance.
Adidas added a clean white Red Devil emblem on the right side of the chest, opposite the classic Trefoil logo, creating a rare mix of club identity, Chinese New Year styling and retro lifestyle fashion.

After the jacket was debuted, everyone just had 1 question, ‘where can we buy this?’.
Unfortunately for fans, the Manchester United jacket is not publicly available yet, although reports have suggested that it is expected to be released soon (Ptg, 2026).
The United custom jacket is based on the Adidas Originals Chinese Track Top template, which was initially launched back in February.
The original jacket is available exclusively through the Adidas app, according to their website. It is available in 4 more colours, other than the sleek grey that United have worn. The jacket costs $150 in the US. It is only available in select markets, while appearing sold out in the others.
In regions where the jacket is sold out, people can buy through resellers, but likely coming at a higher price.
Websites like are Farfetch are reselling this jacket, with prices ranging from around $167-$331.
The jacket was inspired from traditional Chinese martial arts jackets, known as Tangzhuang (Tang jacket) or “kung fu jacket.”
The Tangzhuang traces its origins to the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911). It eventually became one of China’s most recognised formal garments.
In the West, it earned the nickname “kung fu jacket” through its association with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, cementing a cultural image that travelled far beyond Chinese communities.

The real story, though, is in the buttons. The frog fastenings, called pankou, date back over a thousand years, knotted from fabric cords into symmetrical shapes, each one carrying a symbolic meaning. They represent good fortune and harmony, and every one is handmade.
This was a fashion statement containing over a thousand years of ancient Chinese tradition.
Football clubs have long used their platform to blur the line between sportswear and fashion.
But United have done something rarer here: they have created a piece with genuine cultural weight behind it. A club of their size is a brand in itself, and with the demand for this jacket making waves globally, one thing is clear: even if the trophies are not coming right now, United are winning on a different kind of stage.
